Field Allocations
Parents from both MAYAA and four county little league both came to
express their concerns with lack of field space.
The two main fields struggling with scheduling are Summit ridge and
Twin ridge. There is a new organization that requested field space,
Central Md Sliders. Jason Evans a mount airy resident is the one who
put the request in. Scott Nelson with MAYAA baseball said there is
projected to be a lot of kids between 13 and 16. He said the issue is
there are only two 90 FT baseball fields. FCLL is projected to have 3-4
teams. Board member Heck does not think the new organizations
should get fields due to lack of fields. He also mentioned if the lights at
Twin ridge can stay on longer it will allow longer practice. The current
town code allows them to stay on until 10:00. Town planner Breeding
mentioned there is a special approval of 12:00AM for the lights. The
softball program is now with MAYAA. Tim Washabaugh with MAYAA
took our advice, they are spending their own $ for salt box. Board
member Hobbs Michael mentioned we need to advocate more at the
council level for more fields. Councilman Munder asked for an old bill
for the lights.
