Water & Sewer Commission

Town of Mount Airy Water and Sewer Commission Meeting Minutes – November 1, 2017 Commission members in attendance: Dick Swanson, Council Liaison Peter Helt, Fred Goundry, Mark Moxley, and Ron Runkles. Ted Cisowski and Fred Mason are excused absences. Karl Munder and Virginia Siemer Source Water Specialist of the Rural Water Association attended the meeting. Minutes: Fred Goundry moved to approve the minutes of the October 4, 2017 meeting. Seconded by Peter Helt and the motion passed unanimously. Old Business: W&S Financial Status FY 2017: As a follow-up to the September meeting, Dick Swanson updated the members on the preliminary FY 2017 results. Given that the audited financial statement will not be available until later in the month, Mark Moxley recommended that we defer discussion until the report in published. The Commission agreed. Mark Moxley reiterated his suggestion that budget cycle should include a schedule of future capital projects for at least the following five fiscal years. This should be in as much detail as possible to allow for long range planning of revenue needs and funding considerations. Dick Swanson will recommend Mark's suggestion at the December Budget Kick-off Meeting. Water Usage & Waste Water: Discussion continued from the last meeting about the discrepancy between POE readings exceeding Well production numbers in September. Dick Swanson reported that Brian Johnson did not know why the anomaly occurred. The Commission will follow up after additional history is collected. New Business: Volunteer of the Year Nominations: Dick Swanson informed the Commission that the Volunteer of the Year (VOY) Committee will meet on November 8th . He explained that a representative of each commission should attend that meeting and bring any recommendations of the commission. The nomination should be based on what the volunteer has done this year (2017). The nomination should include an explanation as to why the person should be chosen. Nominations should be emailed to Dick Swanson and he will present the nomination at the VOY meeting. Adjournment: Peter Helt moved to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Fred Goundry and passed by unanimous vote. The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 pm. W&S Meeting: The next W&S meeting is January 3, 2018 in Town Hall at 7:00 pm.
