SPECIAL TOWN COUNCIL MEETING Tuesday May 14, 2024 5:00 p.m. Municipal Complex, Council Chambers 100 Ann Edwards Lane, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 MINUTES 1. Call to Order Mayor Haynie called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Daniel Brownstein, Howard Chapman, Laura Hyatt, Jake Rambo, John Iacofano, Gary Santos and Carl Ritchie were all present. Guang Ming Whitley was absent at call to order and arrived during executive session. 2. Public Comment [None] 3. Step Challenge Award Presentation Irv Batten, Race Director for the Cooper River Bridge Run presented the trophy for the Charleston-North Charleston-Mount Pleasant Step Challenge to the winners of the challenge, the Town of Mount Pleasant. He stated this is going to be an annual event and looked forward to future competitions. 4. Recognition of South Carolina High School League 7AAAA Boys Soccer Coach of the Year Mr. Iacofano recognized Coach Tripp Cuttino as the South Carolina High School League 7AAAA Boys Soccer Coach of the Year. 5. Recognition of State Champions Ms. Hyatt recognized the following state champions. a. Lucy Beckham High School Girls Tennis Team Page 2 of 5 b. Lucy Beckham High School Cheer Team c. Lucy Beckham High School Lacrosse Team Page 3 of 5 d. Wando High School Lacrosse Team 6. Executive Session Mr. Santos moved to go into executive session for the reasons stated on the agenda, seconded by Mr. Chapman. All present voted in favor. The meeting was adjourned into executive session at 5:19 p.m. a. Legal and Contractual 1. Update on pending litigation CKC Properties, LLC vs. Town of Mount Pleasant et. al (Case Nos.: 2021-CP-10-04416, 2021- CP-10-05211, and 2023-CV-04489-DCN) 2. Discussion of Corporation Counsel contract b. Personnel Consideration of applications to serve on the Historical Commission 7. Post Executive Session Council may take action on any item, including any subsection of any section, listed on an executive session agenda or discussed in an executive session during a properly noticed meeting. Mayor Haynie reconvened the meeting at 5:55 p.m. stating no votes or action had been taken. Mr. Chapman moved to appoint Walter G. Brown, III and Janon German to the Historical Commission, Seats 1 and 5, respectively, seconded by Ms. Hyatt. All present voted in favor. Page 4 of 5 Ms. Whitley moved to approve a case resolution with respect to Item 6.a.1. as presented in executive session, seconded by Mr. Chapman. Ms. Hyatt and Mr. Rambo voted opposed with all others present voting in favor. The motion carried with a 7-2 vote. Mr. Iacofano moved to proceed as discussed in executive session with respect to item 6.a.2., the contract for Corporation Counsel, seconded by Ms. Whitley. All present voted in favor. 8.
