CULTURE, ARTS & PRIDE COMMISSION Wednesday, March 6, 2024 1:00 PM Municipal Complex, Committee Meeting Room (3300) 100 Ann Edwards Lane Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 Minutes Present: Kathryn Whitaker, Chair; Brad Dunnells; Corey Alston; Chuck Lauer; Nicole Seitz; Chase Barrett Staff Present: Nicole Harvey; Tracy Richter; Dani Fraser (remote) 1. Approval of Minutes from the February 7, 2024 meeting Mr. Dunnells motioned to approve, and Mr. Lauer seconded the motion. All were in favor. 2. Public Comments There were no public comments. 3. Report from Subcommittees a. Community Arts RFP process is moving forward. Multiple submissions received. Mr. Lauer asked when the person would be hired. Ms. Whitaker explained the next steps in the process. b. Art on the Half Shell Selection of artwork for seven new oysters to be made. There were twenty-nine art submissions. Ms. Harvey presented the submissions. Discussion followed. Selections were made. c. Sweetgrass Basket Stand Revitalization Ms. Harvey noted the upcoming volunteer sign up for April 13. He suggested making them historical landmarks to protect them for generations. Discussion followed. d. Marketing Ms. Whitaker noted upcoming events and that volunteers are needed. Discussion followed. Mr. Alston noted that the next CAP meeting falls in the middle of CCSD spring break, and discussion regarding moving the meeting followed. Ms. Harvey will share options with the Commission and a new date will be chosen. There was a discussion clarifying dates and times for upcoming events. 4. Selection of Chair & Vice Chair Ms. Whitaker nominated Mr. Dunnells to be Chair. Mr. Lauer seconded, and all were in favor. Ms. Whitaker nominated Ms. Seitz to be Vice Chair and Mr. Alston seconded. All were in favor. Ms. Whitaker mentioned that some Commission members will be up for re-appointment soon. There is also an open seat that needs to be filled. 5. New Business Ms. Harvey announced that Volkswagen wants a new mural. Mr. Alston mentioned that submissions related to the Native American history of Mount Pleasant would be great.
