CULTURE, ARTS & PRIDE COMMISSION Wednesday, May 1, 2024 1:00 PM Municipal Complex, Committee Meeting Room (3300) 100 Ann Edwards Lane Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 Minutes Present: Brad Dunnells, Chair; Kathryn Whitaker; Nicole Seitz; Corey Alston; Keller Mays; Chuck Lauer Absent: Chase Barrett Staff Present: Nicole Harvey; Tracy Richter; Hillary Leventis; Dani Fraser (remote) 1. Approval of Minutes from the March 6, 2024 meeting Mr. Dunnells called the meeting to order at 1:01 PM. Ms. Whitaker motioned to approve the minutes from March 6, 2024 and Ms. Seitz seconded the motion. 2. Public Comments Lisa Schnipke of 185 Mossy Oak Way spoke to the Commission about the possibility of starting a Storm Drain Art program inspired by an existing project in Spartanburg, SC. Discussion followed. Daniel Brownstein of 1391 Downsberry Drive introduced himself to the Commission and suggested that the Green Commission also be consulted regarding storm drain art. 3. New Committee Member Introduction Keller Mays was introduced to the Commission as a new member. 4. Report from Subcommittees a. Subcommittee Selection Telephone (843) 884-8517 - Fax (843) 856-2180 www.tompsc.com  There are openings to be filled on some subcommittees. Ms. Harvey verbally reviewed the openings and will follow up with the Commission via email to make selections. b. Paint the Town Ms. Harvey has scheduled a meeting with the Volkswagen dealership regarding wall art on their building. Ms. Harvey asked the Commission for input on subject matter and artist selection. Discussion followed. c. Marketing Ms. Harvey stated that items need to be ordered for the table at the Sweetgrass Festival on July 27. Ms. Harvey asked for approval from the Commission to order the needed items. Funding was approved. Mr. Alston asked for an update on the Commission’s request to create a CAP logo. Ms. Harvey expressed that there is concern as no other commissions have their own logos. Discussion followed. Mr. Lauer asked if it is possible to move scheduled events to make the month of April less full in the future. Ms. Harvey explained that some events can’t be rescheduled, but she will review the calendar. Discussion followed. d. Sweetgrass Basket Stand Revitalization Ms. Harvey asked the Commission to finalize a date for the next basket stand painting. Mr. Alston would like to address four basket stands near Roper Hospital next. Ms. Whitaker stated that the Wando football team would like to volunteer to help. Discussion of dates followed. 5. New Business Ms. Whitaker provided an update on the Community Arts Center process. An Artistic Director has been selected and the process will move forward to the Town Council. Discussion followed. Mr. Alston asked for clarification on the role of CAP in the Volkswagen mural process. Mr. Alston suggested incorporating Mount Pleasant history in the artwork. Discussion followed. The next meeting is scheduled for June 5th. There will not be a meeting in July. Adjourn The meeting was adjourned at 1:52 PM.
