CULTURE, ARTS & PRIDE COMMISSION Wednesday, June 5, 2024 1:00 PM Municipal Complex, Committee Meeting Room (3300) 100 Ann Edwards Lane Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 Minutes 1. Approval of Minutes from the May 1, 2024 meeting Mr. Lauer made a motion to approve the minutes and Mr. Barrett seconded that motion. The minutes were approved. 2. Public Comments There were no public comments. 3. Report from Subcommittees a. Marketing Ms. Harvey gave an update on marketing materials. Discussion followed. b. Paint the Town Mr. Barrett shared his excitement for the partnership between Volkswagen, CAP, and Girls Who Paint Murals. Ms. Harvey provided additional information, and discussion of the mural followed. Ms. Harvey asked the Commission for approval to encumber the funds and move forward with a design. Mr. Mays made a motion to approve, and Mr. Barrett seconded the motion. The motion passed. c. Sweetgrass Basket Stand Revitalization Ms. Harvey mentioned tentative plans to work on basket stands with the Wando football team. Discussion followed. All were in favor and the motion passed. d. Community Arts Ms. Harvey told the Commission that Council awarded the contract to run the Community Arts Center to Keely Enright of the Village Repertory Co. Brief discussion followed. 4. New Business Mr. Lauer brought up the prospect of a north Mount Pleasant Farmers Market. Ms. Harvey explained that the Health, Recreation and Events Committee is already discussing this possibility and provided some additional details. Mr. Lauer offered the suggestion of a craft market. Brief discussion followed. Ms. Seitz suggested hosting a plein air painting event in Mount Pleasant, and discussion followed. 5. Adjourn The meeting was adjourned at 2:26 PM.
