Present: Brad Dunnells, Chair; Nicole Seitz; Kathryn Whitaker; Corey
Alston; Chuck Lauer; Keller Mays
Absent: Chase Barrett
Staff Present: Nicole Harvey; Tracy Richter; Steve Gergick
1. Approval of Minutes from the June 5, 2024 meeting
Ms. Whitaker made a motion to approve the minutes and Ms. Seitz
seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion passed
unanimously.
2. Public Comments
Mr. Gergick commended the Commission on the new art display at
Town Hall.
3. Marketing & Budget (agenda was amended to discuss 4. d.
Marketing before Budget).
Ms. Whitaker made motion to amend the agenda, and Mr. Mays
seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion passed.
Ms. Seitz noted the success of the marketing materials used at
Sweetgrass Festival. Discussion followed.
Ms. Harvey presented the budget breakdowns from 2023 and 2024.

Mr. Alston asked if the Sweetgrass Basket Stand Revitalization
budget could be split between the basket stands and the annual
celebration for the basket makers. Discussion followed.
Ms. Harvey stated that the Commission could vote on the budget if
they would like to. Mr. Lauer made a motion to approve changes to the
budget, and Mr. Alston seconded the motion. All were in favor and the
motion passed.
4. Report from Subcommittees
a. Paint the Town
Ms. Harvey presented the proposed design for the mural to be
painted on the Volkswagen building. The theme of the mural is
indigenous species. Discussion followed.
b. Sweetgrass Basket Stand Revitalization
Mr. Alston proposed new dates to work on sweet grass basket
stands. Discussion of the revitalization project followed. October 5
works best for everyone.
c. Art on the Half Shell
Ms. Harvey mentioned that the Chamber of Commerce now
has an oyster shell at their new office. Ms. Harvey has been
working with Public Services to get other oyster shells installed at
various locations.
Ms. Harvey will email out photos of new oyster shell artwork.
Ms. Harvey mentioned that the third-floor patio at Town Hall is
being re-decorated and there will be some oyster shells installed
there, which is a nice nod to CAP. Ms. Harvey also noted other
locations new oyster shells will be installed.
Mr. Alston suggested using the oyster shell art to
commemorate notable people from Mount Pleasant. Discussion
followed.
Mr. Lauer asked if more shells would be created this year. Ms.
Harvey responded yes, there will likely be 7, and that she would
email out more information to the Commission members.

5. New Business
Ms. Whitaker asked for an update on the Community Arts Center. Ms.
Harvey responded that she believes a lease agreement is currently being
negotiated.
