TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA HISTORICAL COMMISSION MEETING MARCH 14, 2019 MINUTES Green arrows in minutes are hyperlinks to the recording Present: Richard Gutowski, chair, Alisha Davenport, Lonnie Doles Patrick Morrissey, Deborah Sutherland Staff: Kate Dolan, Jane Yager-Baumrind I. Approval of Agenda Mr. Morrisey moved to approve the agenda. Ms. Davenport second the motion. All in favor. II. Approval of Minutes Ms. Davenport moved to approve the minutes. Mr. Morrisey second the motion. All in favor. III. Introduce New Members Mr. Gutowski introduced Ms. Deborah Sutherland and asked her to give a brief background on herself. IV. Public Comment There being no public comment, Mr. Gutowski continued with the agenda. V. Discuss Black History Month Mr. Gutowski reviewed 2019 Black History Month. Ms. Dolan reviewed with the Commission ideas she is compiling for next year’s events. VI. Discuss Partnering Ideas with New Library Ms. Dolan stated she was contacted by the new director of the Mount Pleasant Library. Mr. Gutowski added that the new director is excited about partnering with the Historical Commission and the programs that can be offered at the new library location. Historical Commission Meeting March 14, 2019 Page 2 of 2 VII. Discuss Quick Fact Friday (QFF) Ms. Dolan reviewed QFF and moving forward. VIII. Discuss Committee Reports A. Public Education Committee (No Report) B. Historical Marker Committee (No Report) C. Special Collection Committee Ms. Dolan reviewed the progress with the Archive Room. Mr. Morrisey updated the Commission on the statue for Edmond Jenkins and his contact with Brookgreen Gardens for a local artist. D. Tourism Committee Mr. Morrisey updated the Commission on the Christ Church Line. E. Organization and Administration Committee IX. Staff Update Ms. Dolan reviewed the staff update with the Commission. Mr. Morrisey moved to approve $2,700 for the history books. Ms. Davenport seconded. All in favor. Mr. Morrisey moved to approve the $1,800 to purchase the Bright Sign if it can be placed somewhere in a public area outside of the Archive Room. Ms. Sutherland second the motion. All in favor.
