2. Approval of the October 6th Meeting Minutes
Ms. Jones moved to approve the minutes, seconded by Ms. Griffin.

3. Holy City Arts and Lyric Opera and Mount Pleasant
Community Arts Center Committee presentations
Mr. Rick Gutowski spoke representing the Holy City Arts and Lyric
Opera and stated there is a need to get publicity out to the community
for the arts in Mount Pleasant. Posters need to be placed in windows
and rack cards distributed around Town. He thought this would be a
good opportunity for Youth Council to earn service hours. He stated
Marie Louise Moreto is in attendance, and she is the president of the
Mount Pleasant Community Arts Center.
Ms. Moreto stated they are currently a center without a home, and the
focus of their committee is to have a cultural arts center in Mount
Pleasant for the performing, visual and literary arts. She stated until
there is a center, they are doing small productions in churches and
community centers. She said the Coffee House Variety Show is
coming up in April and they could use some assistance with that
program, distributing rack cards, setting up chairs and tables as well

as helping with the refreshments. Ms. Moreto said they could also
use help with marketing.
Ms. Jones asked for contact information to assist with marketing.
Mr. Dimitri Pittas stated in 2019 he and his wife, Leah Edwards,
founded Holy City Arts and Lyric Opera (HALO) with a mission to
engage the entire Lowcountry community through quality art and
artists ranging from large scale productions to intimate conversations,
and it is run here in Mount Pleasant. He said they are here asking for
assistance with distributing marketing materials throughout the
Lowcountry, not just in Mount Pleasant. Mr. Pittas said Charleston
has a rich history of making arts accessible from elementary school
on up through high school but unfortunately after that there are not a
lot of opportunities to stay engaged here in the Charleston area. He
said that is one of the reasons this organization exists.
Mr. Gutowski said if the Youth Council Members did participate, he
would make sure they received their service hours and he would be
the contact for both organizations.
4. Discuss Priority Projects
Ms. Steele said committees would be formed to address the different
priority projects and Ms. Forbus would be bringing the sign-up sheet
around for the members to choose the committees on which they
would like to serve.
Ms. Steele said she spoke with Meals on Wheels and they need a
minimum of 225 cards for Christmas and they would need to be
collected and at Town Hall by December 12 to be given to Meals on
Wheels on December 14. It was decided that if a student made five
cards, they would be given one service hour.
Ms. Forbus stated Ms. Dandy with Engineering and Development
Services was not able to be here tonight so she will be at the
December meeting. The marsh sweep will be pushed to spring.
Ms. Steele said the Sweetgrass Half Marathon is Saturday, February
25. They will need volunteers to staff the water station and others to
hold signs, and more details would be provided as we get closer to
the event.
Ms. Steele said they are still waiting to hear back from the animal
shelter about volunteer opportunities.
