MOUNT PLEASANT YOUTH COUNCIL Thursday, January 5, 2023 5:00 PM Mount Pleasant Municipal Complex Council Chambers 100 Ann Edwards Lane, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 MINUTES Members Present: Evan Curb, Garrett Griffin, Ainsley Scarlett, Addie Utsey, Lane Yarbrough, Rowan Rucker, Hampton Brooker, Grace Griffin (entered at 5:10 p.m.) Members Absent: Annie Cunnane, Willa Jones, Cam Milewski, Chad Weis Mr. Griffin moved to elect Mr. Curb to chair the meeting in the absence of the Chair and Vice Chair, seconded by Ms. Brooker. All present voted in favor. Mr. Curb called the meeting to order at 5:06 p.m. 1. Public Comments [None] 2. Approval of the December 8, 2022 Meeting Minutes Mr. Curb moved to approve the minutes, seconded by Mr. Griffin. All present voted in favor. 3. Stormwater Presentation The Stormwater presentation will be deferred to the February meeting. 4. Staff Updates Mr. Swalhah stated one of the Youth Council requirements is to attend a Town Council meeting. He would like to suggest attending the January 10th meeting, and the members agreed to the date. Ms. Steele reminded the members to be active in their respective committee group texts. (Ms. Griffin entered at 5:10 p.m.) 5. Committee Updates a. Holiday Cards Committee Mr. Swalhah stated the last of the cards were dropped off, and it was a successful program. b. Marsh Sweep Committee Mr. Swalhah said a date had not been decided on for the marsh sweep. Ms. Steele said she understood the preference was to plan it in the warmer months. She asked the members to come up with dates that would not be good times to schedule it and be prepared to decide on a date next month. c. Animal Shelter Committee Mr. Swalhah stated there were three dates for the animal shelter project and they are January 29, February 12 and March 5. Ms. Steele said they are Sundays and the hours would be from 3- 5:00 p.m. The members decided on February 12 for this project. d. March of Dimes Committee Ms. Steele said March of Dimes has a Books for Babies drive, which is ongoing. The purpose is to collect books for parents to read in the NICU, or books for big brother and big sister to enjoy while they visit their siblings. The primary role of March of Dimes is to support mothers and babies. Ms. Steele said she would reach out to March of Dimes to find out if they had deadlines for the book drive and she would let the members know. 6. Discuss Priority Projects Ms. Hampton asked if there was anything else that needed to be done with the holiday card project and Ms. Steele responded that the project was complete and efforts could be concentrated on other projects. Ms. Steele thanked the members for their hard work and said the cards were much appreciated. Mr. Swalhah reminded the members to attend the Council meeting on January 10. He stated the stormwater presentation would be made next month, and that would give a clearer picture of the marsh sweep. The animal shelter volunteer day will be on February 12, and further updates would be given next month. 7.Adjourn There being no further business, Mr. Curb adjourned the meeting at 5:18 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Christine Barrett Clerk of Council January 5, 2023
