Members Present: Mayor Will Haynie, Howard Chapman, Brenda Corley
Members Absent: Carl Ritchie

Transportation Committee Presentation
1.Call to order
Mayor Haynie called the meeting to order at 2:14pm.
2.Approval of Minutes from the January 31, 2022 meeting
Mr. Chapman moved for approval of the minutes; motion seconded by
Ms. Corley. Motion carried unanimously.
3.Public Comments
William Hamilton, 32 Sowell Street, Best Friends of Lowcountry
Transit, stated that they have initiated contact with local hotels to
encourage people who stay in Mount Pleasant hotels to ride the bus into
the city. This helps the Town of Mount Pleasant by allowing an increase in
ridership and revenue on the buses.
Inaudible, 1054 Anna Knapp Boulevard, Best Friends of Lowcountry
Transit, stated she recently performed outreach to Mount Pleasant hotel
managers and they are in support of increased bus transportation services
in Mount Pleasant to transport hotel staff to and from work more
efficiently.
4.Review and approval of FY 22 Traffic Calming Program
recommendations
Mr. Morrison reviewed the FY 22 Traffic Calming recommendations
and explained the Program application process and criteria to qualify for
speed cushions on a roadway segment.
Mr. Chapman moved for approval of the Traffic Calming Program
recommendations as presented by staff; motion seconded by Ms. Corley.
Discussion between the Committee and staff occurred throughout the
review.
Motion carried unanimously.
5.Review of beach traffic issues discussed with Isle of Palms and
Sullivans Island
Mayor Haynie provided a review of a meeting with Isle of Palms and
Sullivans Island to discuss beach traffic issues and parking challenges
during the summer months and possible solutions to alleviate them.
Discussion between the Committee and staff occurred throughout the
review.
6.Update – ongoing projects
Due to time constraints no updates were provided.
7.Adjourn
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:41
pm.
