ADOPTED BY BOARD OF ESTIMATE AND CONTRACT APPROVED Dept. o Clerk FEB2 3 2022 J AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH NEW YORK ST ATE UNIFIED COURT SYSTEM WHEREAS, by letter dated February 17, 2022, the Chief of Staff (Office of the Mayor) has requested legislation authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with New York State Unified Court System for the purpose of cleaning and maintaining tlie "Court Facilities" housed within the Mount Vernon Police Court Complex. Chapter 686 of the Laws of 1996 requires the State of New York to contract with political subdivisions of the State for the cleaning and minor emergency repairs of that subdivision's court facilities; and WHEREAS, the City of Mount Vernon is responsible for fiimishing and maintaining its corirt facilities and is eligible for reimbursement for those expenses at a rate of 100% of cleaning fees and 25% of maintenance fees for the court portion of the Police Court Complex. Historically, Mount Vernon has been the only City in the entirety of New York State (towns and villages are not eligible) that has opted not to enter into the "696 Contract" and seek reimbursement from the State for these expenses; and WHEREAS, with permission, the City can enter into a retroactive contract with the State for the term of April 31, 2021 (the State 1, 2018 througl'i March executes all 696 Contracts on the same 5-year cycle) to formally acknowledge the City's responsibility under the law and facilitate the reimbursement of the expended funds. The Police Department is hereby authorized to condemn and that are owned by the City of Mount Vernon dispose of twenty-two (22) vehicles and are assigned within the Department of Public Safety's motor pool. The vehicles that the Department of Safety is looking to dispose of are non-operable, non- non-salvageable and are in a state of disrepair.
