Board of Ethics

The Board of Ethics of the City of Mount Vernon Minutes of the meeting of January 11, 2024 The meeting was called to order by the Chair at 6:40 p.m. Board members present in the Mayor’s Conference Room at City Hall were Curtis Brewington, Chair; Ed Byrnes, Vice-Chair; Leslie Alpert, Blair Hoplight, Beresford Granston, and Rev. F. Romall Smalls. City Clerk Tanesia Walters was also present. With John McGlynn no longer being a Board member (as of December 27, 2023) and as a result the office of Secretary being vacant, Ed agreed to prepare the proposed minutes of this meeting. A motion was made to approve the proposed minutes for 12/14/23. The minutes were approved 6-0. The election of a new Secretary took place with the understanding that the new Secretary would not be preparing the minutes for this meeting, but would begin to do that for future meetings. Leslie announced her candidacy for the position. The election results were 5 votes in favor and one abstention. Having received the votes of the majority of the members present, Leslie was elected to the office of Secretary. A motion was then made to go into a confidential session One of the members requested that the Board go into a confidential session, and a motion was made and seconded that the Board would do that. A vote was taken, and it was unanimous (6-0) that the Board would immediately go into such a confidential session. The Zoom recording stopped, and the Facebook streaming stopped, while the Board was in the confidential session, and Ms. Walters left the meeting room. Confidential Session All matters during this session were con dential in nature, and, therefore, they have been redacted in order to allow this version of the minutes to be available to the public. The Board decided to end the confidential session, and Ms. Walters returned to the room. A motion was made and seconded that the Board go fi out of the confidential session and return to a public session. The motion was approved by a unanimous vote. Public session resumes The Board members discussed the date of the next meeting. It was agreed by the members that the next meeting would be on February 15, 2024. Ms. Walters stated that the the meeting would be held in the same room, namely the Mayor’s Conference Room.
