Mount Vernon Fire Department Public Safety Meeting April 6, 2016 Minutes Approval of the Minutes Commissioner Hudson made a motion to accept the minutes as submitted. Motion was seconded by Commission Raegan. Motion passed. FIRE 2015 Code Season  2015 is a code year and Fire Marshal Riggs provided an introduction to the upcoming fire code changes. o Hoods – there is a cleaning and tag requirement. o Hyperbaric Facilities – will be required to maintain a record of maintenance. o Fire Sprinklers –  Roof-top areas (such as restaurants) of 100 or more occupancy will require a sprinkler system on the building/occupancy below.  New construction not meeting fire flow will be required to be install sprinkler systems. o Existing buildings with a potential impact on the community (Assemblies) may require Fire Sprinkler upgrades. The AHJ (Authority having Jurisdiction) will conduct a survey to determine areas needing to be upgraded. Facilities would include: Life Care Center, Mira Vista, Hospital etc. o LP Gas – the new code will address requirements for LP Service Stations  Municipal Code Changes o Defining watchman quarters – live in space to care for the business. o Permit Application – time period for abandoned records. o Special Inspections – allow for outside inspection at no cost to the City. o Violations & Penalties – giving a starting point to look for information o Option of residential sprinklers vs adding turnarounds to construction plans. o Adding fire hydrants to the Fire Code  Riggs is working on a document to turn over the ownership of hydrants to PUD. The FD would still approval all new hydrants, and continue to check and paint hydrants. Riggs needs to discuss further with Kevin Rogerson and PUD.  Councilmember Raegan feels it is the City’s responsibility of the City to own and maintain the fire hydrants. o The proposed changes to the municipal code will be posted on the website.  Comprehensive Plan o Rebecca Bradley-Lowell reviewed the docket process with Council. Additional discussion with the public will occur at next week’s meeting. Meeting was adjourned at 7:10 pm
