Public Safety Meeting

Minutes: The May minutes were approved by Fiedler, 2 by Quam)
Burlington Interlocal Agreement for Lending Equipment
o Bringing forward to Council a lending agreement between the City of Mount Vernon
and City of Burlington for the sharing of equipment and vehicles.
o The plan is not to replace vehicles, but enables the Cities to be strategic on their
replacement apparatus.
II. Regional Training grant
o Bringing forward to Council in July.
o 9 different departments working together, $134,000 total grant. Mount Vernon’s
portion is $1331.00
o MOU currently at legal review.
Ill. Electronic Patient Care Reporting
o County decided to go with a Countywide ePCR program. The County program was
ESO.
o Long term savings on moving to ESO and improved operability with neighboring
departments.
IV. Community Paramedicine
o Regional grant for $12,000,000 for Skagit, Snohomish, Island, San Juan and
Whatcom County.
o Program goal is to get the right services to patients which will reduce 911 calls and
Emergency Room visits.
o Recent legislation pasted at the State level allowing billing for Community
Paramedicine.

o The departments will be meeting with the authors of the grant on June to get
further details to unanswered questions.
Police Department Update
V. Outreach Coordinator Update
• Erin has been employed for three months, and had currently learned two main issues:
o Everything stems from pain either physical or emotional

o Outreach is like remodeling a bathroom it takes a lot longer than originally
—
thought and there are allows underlying issues yet to be discovered.
o Currently working through challenges: Felonies, pets, finding places to sleep
VI. Mayor Updates
o Proposing Council agree to send a letter to Senator Bailey regarding proposed changes
to the LEOFF 2 retirement system
o Mary has proposed adding Community Commitment follow up
VII. Requests that the City to follow the Paris Accord. Mayor drafted a memo outlining all the items
which the City currently does to fight climate change. The City will make this memo available to
our citizens.
