Mount Vernon City Council Committee of the Whole March 30, 3022 Mayor Pro-Tempore called the Committee of the Whole meeting order at 6:01 p.m. Present: Councilmembers Beaton, Brocksmith, Carías, Hudson, Hulst, Molenaar, and Morales Staff Present: City Attorney Rogerson, Finance Director Volesky, Police Chief Cammock, Human Resources Director Keator, Project Development Manager Donovan, Fire Chief Brice, Library Director Huffman, and Wastewater Utility Assistant Supervisor Tesarik 1. Discussion of City Employee Classification and Compensation: Ms. Keator reviewed the process and the study that was completed by Public Sector Personnel Consultants. The proposed changes include combining salary schedules, setting eight steps in each range, and an implementation date of May 1, 2022. Council discussed the placement of the Police and Fire Chiefs on the salary schedule as well as whether or not the elected position of Mayor should be included in the salary scheduled. The meeting was recessed 6:59 p.m. The meeting reconvened at 8:14 p.m. Discussion of the Police and Fire Chiefs and Mayor salary continued. Council directed staff to conduct additional review of job descriptions of the chiefs, and Mayor compensation. The topic will be placed on the April 6, 2022 Public Safety Committee for continued discussion. 2. Miscellaneous – For the good of the order: • Councilmember Morales stated that May 6th is National Provider Appreciation Day and would like the city to make a proclamation of acknowledgement.
