Public Safety Committee Minutes August 7, 2024 Police Court Campus, 1805 Continental Place Councilmember Beaton called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm Present Mayor Donovan Councilmembers: Beaton, Brocksmith, Carías, Hudson, Molenaar, Tercero, and Vander Stoep Staff: Assistant Fire Chief Harris, Fire Marshall Kurth, Police Chief Christman, Special Projects Manager Sexton, and City Clerk Jensen Citizens: 0 1. Approval of June 5, 2024 Minutes Councilmember Hudson moved to approve the June 5, 2024 minutes. Motion seconded by Councilmember Vander Stoep. Motion carried 7-0. 2. Fire  Station 1 RFQ: Architects Mackenzie, Inc. has been selected through the Request for Qualification process; an agreement will be presented to Council for approval next week. The RFQ process, current and future needs for the station, and council involvement were discussed.  Station 2 Update: The project is nearing completion with a projected move in date of September 26, 2024. A ribbon cutting ceremony/open house will be held sometime in October.  Staffing Enhancement: Current and future staffing numbers were reviewed.  The department recently purchased two Ford F150 vehicles. Public Safety Committee August 7, 2024 Page 2 of 2 3. Fire/Police  July 4th Report: Police and Fire provided operations summaries for Fourth of July event, including preparation, education, types & number of calls and staffing. Future strategies were discussed. 4. Committee Agenda Requests  Discussion of the impacts of design standards in the city and the ability to provide fire and police services 5. Miscellaneous:  1590 Applications: 1590 applications and scoring sheets were provided to Council. The process timeline was reviewed. After a lengthy discussion, Council decided to eliminate the committee review process. Funding for operations and maintenance, small projects and project location requirements were discussed.  The North Sound Behavioral Health funding agreement renewal will be on the August 14th Council agenda.
