City of Mountain View Minutes Human Relations Commission Thursday, May 5, 2022 6:30 PM Video Conference with No Physical Meeting Location 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair Lin called the meeting to order at 6:34 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL Present 6- Commissioner Kevin Ball, Commissioner Nirvana Nwokidu, Commissioner Julie Solomon, Commissioner Xavier Webb, Vice Chair IdaRose Sylvester, and Chair Annette Lin 3. MINUTES APPROVAL 3.1 Minutes approval for April 7, 2022 M/S - Ball/Lin - Minutes for the April 7, 2022, regular meeting were approved with no modifications. Yes: 6- Commissioner Ball, Commissioner Nwokidu, Commissioner Solomon, Commissioner Webb, Vice Chair Sylvester, and Chair Lin 4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC None. 5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5.1 Color of Law Subcommittee Vice-Chair Sylvester provided the update. The subcommittee has received approximately 34 total responses to the community survey, with 28 respondents indicating they are interested in being interviewed for the oral history portion of the project. The subcommittee is finalizing the interview script and will begin conducting interviews in the next few weeks. 5.2 Racial Reconciliation Subcommittee The subcommittee had no update. 6. NEW BUSINESS 6.1 Development of the HRC Work Plan for Fiscal Year (FY) 2022-23 Assistant to the City Manager Gilmore provided a work plan update for the Commission discussion and consideration of potential projects for fiscal year 2022-23. After dialogue and discussion, the Commission provided input on their potential projects for the next fiscal year. 7. COMMISSION/STAFF ANNOUNCEMENTS, UPDATES, REQUESTS, AND COMMITTEE REPORTS Commissioner Solomon recognized the passing of former Mountain View resident and volunteer, Juan Aranda. Commissioner Sylvester shared that a AAPI Cultural Festival will be held on the City Hall Plaza on Saturday, May 13 from 1-4:30 p.m. More information can be found at www.aapa.net. Assistant to the City Manager Gilmore and Assistant City Manager Ramberg announced the dates for the next Council Neighborhood Committee meetings: - May 5 - Neighborhood Grants Review and Approval - May 12 - Grant Road/Sylvan Neighborhoods Meeting 8. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC This portion of the meeting is reserved for persons wishing to address the Commission on any matter not on the agenda. Speakers are limited to three minutes. State law prohibits the Commission from acting on non-agenda items. 5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5.1 Color of Law Subcommittee Recommendation: The Color of Law Subcommittee will present an oral update. No action will be taken on this item. 5.2 Racial Reconciliation Subcommittee Recommendation: The Racial Reconciliation Subcommittee will present an oral update. No action will be taken on this item. 6. NEW BUSINESS 6.1 Development of the HRC Work Plan for Fiscal Year (FY) 2022-23 Recommendation: Staff will provide a work plan update for the Commission discussion and consideration of potential projects for Fiscal Year (FY) 2022-23.
