City of Mountain View Minutes - Final Youth Advisory Committee Tuesday, January 21, 2025 4:30 PM The View Teen Center, 263 Escuela Avenue 1. CALL TO ORDER Vice Chair Luna called the meeting to order at 4:34 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL - Committee Members Andrzejek, Byon, Jhin, John, Lew, Ma, Montano, Nair, Oh, Rajasekaran, Tan, Wazhi, Zayats, Vice Chair Luna, and Chair Chan Present 12 - Member Dylan Andrzejek, Member Katie Byon, Member Ryan Jhin, Member Naisha John, Member Sophia Lew, Member Taylor Luna, Member Victoria Ma, Member Leilani Montano, Member Jiwoo Oh, Member Shahana Rajasekaran, Member Kaelyn Tan, and Member Meital Zayats Absent 3 - Member Natalie Chan, Member Jayan Nair, and Member Kavya Wazhi 3. APPROVE MINUTES 3.1 Minutes Approval To approve the January 6 meeting minutes. Yes: 12 - Member Andrzejek, Member Byon, Member Jhin, Member John, Member Lew, Member Luna, Member Ma, Member Montano, Member Oh, Member Rajasekaran, Member Tan, and Member Zayats 4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC None. 5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None. 6. NEW BUSINESS 6.1 Subcommittee Updates Committee members met for 30 minutes in their Subcommittees. Each subcommittee provided the entire committee with an update on what they are working on. 6.2 Teen Week Committee members broke out into their Teen Week Subcommittees and spent 30 minutes working on their event/tasks. The website - MountainView.gov/TeenWeek - has been updated to reflect the most current info. City of Mountain View Page 1 Youth Advisory Committee Minutes - Final January 21, 2025 6.3 YAC-Sponsored Pickleball Event Youth Advisory Committee member-at-large, Miguel, shared his ideas for a YAC-Sponsored Pickleball event. Committee members were very interested in the event idea and will explore it further at future meetings. 6.4 Santa Clara County Youth Networking Event This agenda item will be moved to Unfinished Business at the Feb. 3 meeting. 6.5 2025-26 Youth Advisory Committee Recruitment Recreation Coordinator, Lauren Eck, shared information on the 2025-26 Youth Advisory Committee recruitment. Applications open Feb. 3 at MountainView.gov/YAC. Committee members will advertise the recruitment at their schools through morning announcements, word of mouth, and a video put together by Social Media Coordinator, Miguel. 6.6 Earth and Arbor Day Event Volunteering Committee members discussed the city's Earth and Arbor Day event and how they would like to be involved. The committee overwhelmingly agreed to host a YAC-led activity at this year's event. 7. COMMITTEE/STAFF COMMENTS, QUESTIONS, COMMITTEE REPORTS 8. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC This portion of the meeting is reserved for persons wishing to address the Committee on any matter not on the agenda. Speakers are limited to three minutes. State law prohibits the Committee from acting on non-agenda items. 5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None. 6. NEW BUSINESS 6.1 Subcommittee Updates The DEI, Health and Wellness, College and Career, and Outreach and Collaboration Subcommittees will provide an update. 6.2 Teen Week Committee members will continue to plan Teen Week, held March 17-21, 2025. 6.3 YAC-Sponsored Pickleball Event Committee Member-at-Large, Miguel, will present his idea for a YAC-Sponsored Pickleball Event. Committee members will discuss marketing strategies to recruit new members. 6.6 Earth and Arbor Day Event Volunteering City Staff will share information on the 2025 Earth and Arbor Day Event. Committee members will discuss how they would like to be involved in the event this year. 7.
