H-15-005 – 208 N. Maney Avenue, Jeffery & Tamera Neely – Requesting an extensive
renovation of the exterior of the house and garage
This property is located on the east side of N. Maney Avenue about midway between E. College
Street and E. Lytle Street. The house was constructed circa 1945 in the Vernacular style of
architecture with a gable roof and stone detailing. The house is a non-contributing structure of
the North Maney Avenue Historic District of the National Register of Historic Places.
The property was converted from a single-family dwelling into a three family dwelling back in
the early 1980’s. The applicants are planning to convert it back into a single-family dwelling
and are proposing major exterior and interior modifications to the property. Photographs of
adjacent properties on both sides of 208 N. Maney Avenue are included in your agenda materials
for comparison. The dwelling on the north side of this property is not located in the East Main
Street Historic District. There is a triplex dwelling unit located on the south side of this property
which is a non-contributing structure in the East Main Street Historic District of the National
Register of Historic Places.
The modifications proposed to the exterior of the property include removing all existing
aluminum siding and replacing it with hardi-board siding, adding two (2) dormers to the roof at
the front of the house, replacing the existing roof shingles with architectural shingles, closing in
the existing garage for an office, replacing the garage door with three (3) windows, adding three
(3) windows to the left side of the garage, closing in the breezeway and roof making it a dining
room and bath and add heating and air conditioning units, replacing windows on the front of the
house and adding awnings to the windows on both sides of the front door, adding columns and a
portico to the front entrance.
Also included in the agenda package is a site plan of the property along with photographs,
drawings and samples of the colors and materials for the proposed renovation. The applicant
will be in attendance at the meeting to answer any questions the Commission may have
regarding their proposal.
