Mike Browning, Public Information Officer In accordance with the Executive Order of the Governor, Planning Commission member Chase Salas participated in this meeting electronically. Chair Kathy Jones called the meeting to order after determining there was a quorum. Mr. Greg McKnight came forward to welcome everyone to the meeting. He explained that this meeting will be informal and include a PowerPoint presentation provided by Mr. David Ives and Mr. Matthew Blomeley. Hard copies of the PowerPoint presentation had been provided to Commission members for their use and records. Presentation of duties and responsibilities of the Planning Commission and Planning Department and the legal framework for them. Mr. David Ives began the presentation stating that overall function the Planning Department and Planning Commission is to coordinate the orderly development of the physical environment. The various processes that the Planning Department helps to administer include participation from the 1  MINUTES OF THE MURFREESBORO PLANNING COMMISSION WORKSHOP MEETING DECEMBER 1, 2020 Planning Commission, City Council, BZA, City staff, and the public. He also stated that Tennessee Code Annotated requires communities to adopt a General plan for its physical development. Mr. Ives and Mr. Matthew Blomeley spoke on several topics including the following:  General Plan  Subdivision of Land  Zoning and Rezoning  Annexation  Legislative v. Administrative functions of the Planning Commission Several handouts had been distributed to those attending the meeting, including a section of Tenn. Code., § 13-4-201, Employee Handbook Section 3001, and Employee Handbook Section 2002. At the conclusion of the presentation, the Planning Commission had the opportunity to ask questions of City Staff, and Mr. Ives, Mr. Blomeley, and Mr. Sam Huddleston were available to answer questions. Chair Jones and Ms. Jennifer Garland both thanked City Staff for the presentation and the valuable information.
