Regular Voting Meeting – Wednesday, November 15, 2017
Council of the Municipality of Murrysville held a Regular Voting Meeting on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at
7:00 p.m. in the Municipal Building. Present at the meeting were Council members Loren Kase, Joan Kearns,
Tony Spadaro and Jeffery Kepler (via phone). Councilpersons Jamie Lee Korns, Josh Lorenz and David Perry were
absent from the meeting. Also present were Chief Administrator James R. Morrison, Solicitor George
Kotjarapoglus, Finance Director Diane Heming, Engineering Director Scott Hilty, Public Works and Parks Director
Bob Bell, Recreation Director Carly Greene and Municipal Planner Allen Cohen.
THE MUNICIPALITY OF MURRYSVILLE
WELCOMES SARAH LUCAS
Finance Director Diane Heming and Recreation Director Carly Greene welcomed Sarah Lucas, who was
instrumental in helping to save and rescue several residents from a housing complex in Texas during hurricane
Harvey. Sarah explained how she was on Facebook and saw people being evacuated and was able to contact
someone in the complex who had no idea of the evacuations. That person was able to alert 35 other people
who were able to be safely evacuated. She approached the pastor at her church, Grace Life Church, to request
volunteers to go to Texas on a mission trip. The pastor said to get a semi to transport supplies. Ms. Lucas
contacted the news, was interviewed, and had the opportunity to request a donation of a semi. M&C Trucking
Co. in Johnstown dropped off a truck and donated a driver to transport the supplies. Equipment and supplies
were collected and within 7 days the truck was loaded and on its way to Houston. The warehouse accepting
delivery split the supplies to 2 neighborhoods. Ms. Lucas introduced members of her family and friends in
attendance that helped with the project. Ms. Heming presented Ms. Lucas with a Certificate of Appreciation
from the Municipality for her passion and dedication towards aiding others.
PUBLIC HEARINGS
There were 4 public hearings scheduled for this meeting; however, for the first time in over 18 years, Council did
not have a quorum present to conduct a meeting. After waiting for an extended period, the meeting was
cancelled and the hearings and action items continued to the December 6, 2017 meeting, unless Council can
agree to a convenient date sooner.
The Regular Voting Meeting was broadcast on local government Channel 19. A true copy of the Council meeting
DVD is available for the public to purchase from the Municipality of Murrysville and is in the Murrysville Public
Library for review.
