City of Nashua Division of Public Health & Community Services 18 Mulberry Street, Nashua, NH 03060 BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING June 9th, 2010 12:30 PM Second Floor Conference Room B – 18 Mulberry Street MEETING MINUTES BOH Members Present: Dr. Peter Klementowicz Dr. Ajay Sharma Aldermen Present: Lori Wilshire Staff Present: Bobbie Bagley, Ashley Conley, Patty Crooker, Corinn Dembkoski, Janet Graziano, Chris Lister, Bob Mack, Heidi Peek, Barbara Scacco The Board was given the meeting Agenda, monthly departmental reports, current Board of Health budget and May BOH Meeting Minutes. The May 2010 Minutes were voted on and approved. 1. Meeting called to order at 12:35 p.m. by Dr. Peter Klementowicz in Dr. Storace’s absence - Quorum was met (Formal Meeting) 2. Department Reports Community Health – Bobbie Bagley presented:  First active TB case known since 2008  Safe Choices program has ended for this year – 19 clients completed  Childhood Lead state funding was eliminated while State reorganizes o Will use Healthy Homes model  Nurses are keeping up CEU’s  Suspect case of meningitis  Refugees probably coming soon - Rohingyan o Multiple health issues expected 1 Child Care – Chris Lister presented:  Out of 265 programs in the City, there were six programs who were managing most of the children. o Will be receiving Trust Fund Awards in June o Funding will help care for these families  Grants o We are at year end and are closing out, spending down Emergency Preparedness – Patty Crooker presented:  We are working on our Med Surge Plan o Sharing information with the rest of the State  Ashley has attended two conferences o Disaster Epidemiology Conference was in May o Annual Epidemiology Conference in June  Working on purchasing plans o All were approved by the State o POs are being input  Psychological First Aid Training workshop was held on June 2nd at Rivier College  Incident Response Team reported two issues: Strep throat outbreak and suspect mumps Environmental Health – Heidi Peek presented  Food Service Inspections on the increase o No above limit bacteria found  Lone Star Tick found o Reported to the state  Complaint from Nashua resident: Strange odor from fertilizer which was fermenting  Have not received any rabies samples or wildlife samples in a long while  Meredith has been handling septic activities and we’re reviewing the plans together  Ongoing bed bug educating efforts continue  Mosquito surveillance starts July 1st.  Gearing up for pool inspections Welfare - Bob Mack presented:  Decrease in financial assistance during the month of May  Number of people receiving aid was about the same.  Vouchers were less than 100  We refer people to other alternative sources if we can’t help them  Significantly under budget for this fiscal year o Monies go back to the General Fund  Bob involved in Enforcement Dialogue with Public Health and Community Development regarding issues relating to condemnation of housing.  Some of the prescription clients that we are unable to help are referred to other Prescription Assistance Programs 2  Large decrease in shelter requests  Increase in Veteran support Mediation – Bob Mack presented in Sandy Mulcahy’s absence:  DBHRT activities discussed  Supports Volunteer Mediation and Marital Mediation  Mediation activities tend to slow down in the summer 3. Public Comments – None Heidi Peek introduced Corinn Dembkoski, our new Health Program Specialist BOH Members’ Stipends  Letters of intent pertaining to the Stipends were given to the Board members o Each Board member will sign the letter of their choice and return. o Dr. Klementowicz and Dr. Sharma signed their letters prior to the meeting o Dr. Storace’s letter was mailed to him after the meeting.
