COMMISSION ON PUBLIC WORKS/UTILITIES COUNCIL ROOM JANUARY 9, 2024 6:45 P.M. The Commission on Public Works/Utilities met in regular session, Chair Clough presiding. On roll call: all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were declared approved. Director of Public Works Friemoth reported on one burial at the Cemetery, tree trimming and removal, taking down Christmas decorations, hauling brush and compost, equipment maintenance, street light maintenance and repair, Water Department – daily testing and well rounds, meter change outs and radio installations, cleaning office, wells and booster station, hydrant inspections and winterizations, preparing paperwork and buildings for the annual DNR water audit, Sewer Department – daily testing and lift station rounds, lift station maintenance and inspections, equipment maintenance, video sewer mains. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Mayor Poeschel stated that on behalf of the City Council and the Mayor’s office he would like to recognize Chief of Police Mankowski and his entire staff today on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Thank you for your service and all you do for our community. It does not go unnoticed. Thank you. The minutes of the previous meetings were declared approved. Council member Petkovsek reported on the December 26, 2023 meeting of the Grants Committee regarding: 1) review and updating the list of grants in progress and 2) discussion on TIF District No. 2 balance and closing. Council Member Clough reported on the December 27, 2023 meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission regarding: 1) discussion on and tabling grant application for 118 Clay Street, 2) discussion on the 2023 Historic Preservation Action Plan and letter to property owners, 3) discussion with 140 W. Fifth street property owner on potential historic property listing. Council Member Clough reported on the January 9, 2024 meeting of the Commission on Public Works/Utilities regarding current activities. Mayor Poeschel declared all reports filed as presented with the City Clerk. Chief of Police Mankowski reported on police trainings, Police Officer Fecker has completed police recruit school and will begin field training, getting proposals for a replacement squad with the money budgeted for wages from open officer positions, December parking enforcements, citations, warnings, incidents, office activity, calls, officer activity, business patrols, citizens interactions, town of Mentor contract policing (starting in January, 2024 the monthly commitment will increase from 10 hours to 15 hours). Tavern Operator’s License Applications: Laurie J. Carteron and Laneah L. Kaetterhenry Motion Clough, second Neville, to grant all listed licenses. All Aye.
