Bavarian Blast 5k Fun Run sponsored by Wellness Collective - Saturday, July 9 19, 2025 at 8:00 a.m. Received request for $125 sponsorship/donation. Wellness Collective request 5.2. Bavarian Blast Parade - Sunday, July 20, 2025 at 12:30 p.m. Registration 10 - 12 deadline is June 30th. Fee $10. Bavarian Blast parade 5.3. New Ulm Night Out - Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at German Park (rain location is Civic Center). Information regarding the event will be distributed in May. 5.4. Brown County Fair - Wednesday, August 6 - Sunday, August 10, 2025. Requested registration information. 5.5. South Central Minnesota Pridefest Parade and Festival - Saturday, September 6, 2025. Registration information not available yet. 5.6. Inventory of Human Rights Commission handouts at City Hall. Determine if 13 supply is sufficient for summer events or if need to order any items. inventory of handouts 2025-04-16 Page 1 of 13 6. EDUCATION COMMITTEE 6.1. Distribution of Community Surveys. Report from March 31st committee meeting. Ideas - distribute flyer with QR code and printed version of survey throughout community. Create list and have members sign up for different locations to post flyer and pickup printed copies on a monthly basis. 6.2. Alternate options of poster/essay/video contests. Report from March 31st committee meeting. Ideas - research contests held in different communities or organizations to see what has been successful. Promote throughout year at events and segment on NUCAT. Possibly extending contest to community at large. 6.3. "Living With Limits". Idea from March 31st Education Committee meeting. Series of sessions involving a speaker/documentary with discussion surrounding a way in which someone may live with limits (such as blindness, mobility impairment, etc.). 7. OTHER BUSINESS 7.1. Update from Carl Zeidler regarding the possibility of Hermann Express pamphlets in braille and other languages. 7.2. David Mesta, representative of Comunidades Organizando el Poder y la Acción Latina (COPAL), will be in attendance to provide an overview of their organization, what they do and what services they provide. COPAL is a member-based organization established in 2018 to improve the quality of life of Latine families. 8. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE 9. CITY COUNCIL LIAISON 9.1. Obehi Okojie (April - June). 10. DATE OF NEXT MEETING 10.1. The next regularly scheduled meeting is Monday, May 26th which is Memorial Day. City Hall is closed on Memorial Day. Need to determine a different meeting date. Alternate dates the Council Chambers is available include May 21st, 22nd, and 28th. 11. ADJOURNMENT Page 2 of 13  MINUTES New Ulm Human Rights Commission Monday, March 24, 2025 at 5:15 p.m. City Hall Council Chambers Members Present: Carl Zeidler, Deb Egeland, Katie Dorschner, Kristin Sprenger, Cassandra Ness, Allie Lee, Obehi Okojie. Call to Order: Meeting called to order by Chair Kristin Sprenger. Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve February 24, 2025 minutes by Deb Egeland, seconded by Cassandra Ness, passed by all members present. Budget Report: $1,100 in 2024 funds carried over to 2025 budget. The current report does not include Human Rights Award plaques which were ordered. Events Committee: All are invited to the Human Rights Award ceremony on March 26th. A press release was distributed, and the newspaper will be there. Events Committee will meet on April 1st to discuss a forum on immigration concerns. Education Committee: Committee will meet on March 31st to discuss alternate ideas for the poster/essay/video contests and distribution of the community survey. There is a link to the responses to see if any additional surveys have been received. Other Business: The Commission did not receive the grant for the Family and Well Being event but would like to keep in mind for next year and possibly partner with Park and Recreation Department for their event. Carl Zeidler spoke with the person who manages Hermann Express. Currently they do not have the capacity to put braille on the bus signs, but it may be feasible to look into expense of putting braille on their pamphlet materials. Currently the bus information is available via telephone and online. Individuals may have devices that can then read the information to them. Hermann Express staff were very helpful and said they are willing to come to a meeting to discuss this topic further. Heartland Express is another option that is available which picks up individuals at a specific location instead of the fixed bus route that Hermann Express uses. There is a Transportation Advisory Board that meets which is open to the public. Carl will follow up with Hermann Express to discuss creating braille pamphlets and the possibility of having pamphlets available in other languages, such as a Spanish version. Motion to continue pursuing the topic made by Cassandra Ness, seconded by Katie Dorschner, passed by all members present. Legislative Update: No report. City Council Liaison: Allie Lee - nothing to report. Obehi Okojie volunteered for April through June but advised that she would not be at the April meeting to provide a report. Allie Lee advised of clarification of the different events subcommittees on communications going forward to avoid confusion – Events Committee (HRC Sponsored Events) and Events Committee (Participating Events). Complete an application. 2. Provide verification of nonprofit status. 3. Provide financial statements, including a balance sheet and income statement, for the most recently completed fiscal year. 4. City Staff will review applications and prepare the information for City Council review. 7. There will be a work session with the City Council on July 15th to discuss the applications that are received. Please be prepared to have a representative at the work session. 8. Contributions will be approved at the August 5, 2025 City Council meeting but will not be final until the Preliminary Budget is approved at the September 16, 2025 meeting.
