III) FINANCIAL REPORT
We are 84.38% through 2025 and our budget is approximately 84.09% expended. Bills paid
during October included $6,735.70 to Ingram for books and CD audiobooks (Books, AV
supplies, miscellaneous donations); $454.17 to Metro Sales for two printer contracts (Contractual
maintenance equipment); $111.15 to River View Sanitation for trash service (Contractual
maintenance building); and $305.46 to Verizon Wireless for service for eight hotspots
(Contractual maintenance equipment).
Ide notes:
• Although fund balance was used for the badge entry cabling ($7,373.60), it is still coded
to the Contractual maintenance building line. When considering that expense, the line is
spent at approximately 59.7%.
• The Subscriptions and memberships line is overspent because the library’s department
header website license ($980.42) and Libdata license ($900), as well as a couple other
small technology subscriptions, were budgeted in the Computer supplies & equipment
line. They have been budgeted to the Subscriptions & memberships line in the 2026
budget, on the recommendation of the City’s auditor. The library is still expecting an
invoice from Ebsco for the annual magazine subscriptions, so the line will be overspent
due to the change in coding. Computer supplies and equipment will be underspent.
• The budget is approximately 77.5% expended when the spending for the Mellon
Foundation Grant (in Library technology-grant and Library furniture-grant lines) and the
badge cabling project are removed.
IV) LIBRARIAN’S REPORT
• Two Pages and a Maintenance Technician start November 24. Library Aide posting
closes Sunday, November 16.
• The library was closed on Friday, October 24, to allow staff to attend a full day of
training. The Library Board approved this closure at its August 14, 2025, meeting. Police
Chief Dave Borchert and Brown County Human Services Intake Social Worker Erin
Kissner and Housing Resource Specialist Mark Bullen presented “Brown County
Services for Homeless People.” Deborah Saari from North American Alliance for Mental
Illness – MN presented “Dealing with Difficult Interactions.” Other topics, which were
presented by library staff, included readers advisory service, troubling shooting patron
devices, and integrated library system (ILS) best practices. The ILS is the software the
library uses to manage and track its collections and patron accounts. Readers advisory
service encompasses the expertise and tools library staff use to help patrons explore and
select reading materials.
• The library planned to have a visit with Minnesota author Amy Gregg but must
reschedule due to the author being sick.
• A new episode of Tales of the Town has been released: “Tornado of 1881.”
• The Friends of the Library Book sale was November 7-8. The door counts were nearly
doubled those days. The Friends have not yet reported the final figures for the sale.
• IMLS – At this point, IMLS funding is still included in the Federal budget, which has yet
to pass.
Statistics
• The door count was down slightly from 2024, due to closing one day for staff training.
Physical circulation was also down because of the closure.
• Computer use continues to trend above last year, due to teens using the space after
school.
• Patrons have viewed over 2,000 hours of library content on YouTube.
Programming
• Author Frank Weber speaks Thursday, November 13, at 6:30 p.m. Weber is a forensic
psychologist and true crime author. He’ll walk attendees through profiling a case that
lacked evidence. He’ll also discuss his 2025 book, “The Sun,” which is based on a MN
mystery that was once called the crime of the century. He’ll be available to sign books
and answer questions before and after the event.
• “Tales of Crime and Corruption in Brown County in the 1930s” with Carla Fjeld takes
place on Monday, November 17, at 6:30 p.m. Fjeld will share secret stories of
counterfeiting rings, bootleggers, holdups, and gangsters, as well as discussing the
experiences of Brown County residents during Prohibition.
• The Teen Video Club meets on Saturday, November 15, at 2 p.m.
• The Junior Video Game Club meets on Tuesday, November 18, at 3:30 p.m.
• A No School Movie plays on Wednesday, November 26, at 2 p.m. The movie is “The

New Ulm Public Library Board
Library Department Activities Report
November 2025
Library Pages Allie Dalluge and Sara Wendinger and Maintenance Technician Tim Anderley
started on November 24. Welcome, Allie, Sara, and Tim! Reference Aide Sue Ullery has
submitted her retirement after 16 years at the library. Her last day with the library will be
December 17. We wish her well!
The Friends of the New Ulm Public Library held its annual used book sale on November 6-8,
earning a total of $2,189.50 from sales, membership renewals, and donations. Thank you to all
the Friends of the Library volunteers who generously donated their time!
The Reference Librarian delivered books to area Senior Living homes serving 33 patrons. The
Reference Librarian proctored three student exams in November.
The Programming and Technology Services Librarian represented the library on KNUJ,
Something Artsy, and at the City’s Emergency Management Committee meeting that also
included a cybersecurity training with Brown County information technology personnel. Filming
for Stories for the Season began at The Grand Center for Arts and Culture, and the latest Tales of
the Town episode about the 1881 tornado was released. The Memory Lab saw good usage in
November and the library’s regular weekly and monthly programs had steady attendance. The
library hosted Minnesota author and forensic psychologist Frank Weber this month, and he gave
a fascinating presentation including multiple real life case studies on profiling in addition to
talking about his newest book. Local Brown County Historical Society volunteer and former
Youth Services Aide Carla Fjeld gave a great presentation about crime and corruption in Brown
County during the 1930s. Both programs were able to be recorded on New Ulm Community
Access Television and will be on the library’s YouTube channel in future.
Seedswomen of Minnesota 1890s-1900 is a three-part traveling banner display created by the
Minnesota Historical Society and the Anderson Horticultural Library at the University of
Minnesota. It is on display on the main floor of New Ulm Public Library through the end of
January 2026. The display features three pioneering women in Minnesota history that built
successful seed-selling businesses.
This month the Youth Services Librarian planned and presented 15 programs with over 180 in
attendance. In-house crafts and scavenger hunts have been popular this month: children created
82 crafts and completed 112 scavenger hunts. The Youth Services Librarian is enjoying taking
storytime out of the library for daycare outreach. The children are incredibly attentive and very
welcoming. Planning and preparations for next month’s traditional St. Nicholas Eve Celebration
are underway. The event will take place on Friday, December 5, at 3:30 p.m. in the children’s
room.
The Assistant Director helped with outreach at Oak Hills Assisted Living Center. She attended
the Minitex Technical Services Symposium Navigating Unchartered Waters in St. Paul. The
Page 13 of 24
Assistant Director attended the following November meetings: Library Board and library
supervisors.
The Library Director worked with vendors on various furniture and equipment projects,
completed her annual performance self-evaluation, met with new library staff, and participated in
Library Aide interviews. She attended the following November meetings: After Council, TdS
Hot Topics, library staff, Brown County Library Board, Library Board, CAST Board, library
supervisors, and Safety Committee. She attended online training from Traverse des Sioux
Regional Library on using the ReShare interlibrary loan software, and on the Evergreen
integrated library system. She also met with Amazon representatives about the new Amazon for
Libraries service.

New Ulm Public Library Board
Resolution Number 2025-29
Approving Disposal of Surplus Equipment
First Reading and Adoption
In November 2025, the Library Director signed an agreement with Metro Sales for a 60-month
lease of a new Ricoh RS-IM C2510 copier. The new copier is scheduled to be installed at the
library’s service desk on December 16, 2025, and Metro Sales will recycle the old copier as part
of installation services. The new copier offers printing, copying, fax, and scan-to-email
capabilities.
The current Ricoh MP C3503 was purchased in 2015. The City’s IT Director recommended
replacing it due to age and decreasing availability of replacement parts. Replacement also
allowed the library to lock in the State contract pricing before it increased at the end of
November. The old machine has no residual value to the library. The Library Director
recommends that it be declared surplus and recycled by Metro Sales. A photo of the old copier is
included below.
In August 2025, the Library Director ordered replacement shelving for the picture book
collection. The shelving will replace the current picture book browsing bins, which are worn,
becoming unstable, and have no residual value to the library. The Library Director recommends
that the twelve browsing bins be declared surplus and disposed of once the new shelving is
installed. A photo of the browsing bins is included below.
