Election of 2025 Officers: Chair (Tom Schmitz 2025) Tom resigned from the commission to serve as City Councilor Ward 3 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 4.1. Approve the March 3, 2025 Sister Cities Commission meeting minutes. 3-4 SCC minutes 03-03-2025 5. FINANCIAL REPORT 5.1. Approve the financial report for the date ending March 31, 2025. 5-6  101 Fund: Reimburse Martha Balge - $1,817.01 flight and $150 travel stipend totaling $1,967.01 SISTER CITIES 03.31.2025 SISTER CITIES 03.31.2025 General 6. HANS JOOHS CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM 6.1. Outbound Hans Joohs Intern - Martha Balge  Intern dates May 26 through August 15  Annemarie has notified that Martha will work at the Danube Office helping organize a big event in July called "U(l)mweltwoche" (concerning environmental issues). A second location will be announced soon. 6.2. Inbound Hans Joohs Intern - Samuel Knoops  Intern dates September 2 through November 24  Schell's Brewery will host Samuel for his internship  Samuel has concerns relating to possible complications entering and exiting the US due to a report of Europeans being detained. Sister Cities International has been contacted for guidance on Samuel's concerns.  Host families are being considered 7. OLD BUSINESS 7.1. NEW BUSINESS 8.1. Report by the Narren on their trip to Ulm, Germany 9. ANNOUNCEMENTS 9.1. Recognition Award reception will be held at the Kegel Klub following the meeting. 9.2. The next meeting will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 5:15 p.m. at City Hall Conference Room. 10. ADJOURNMENT If someone would like an item discussed at an upcoming Sister Cities Commission meeting, please send an email to lisap@newulmmn.gov so the item can be added to the Agenda. The SCC meets the first Monday of the month. In order for an item to be added to the Agenda, please submit the information five (5) days prior to the meeting. Page 2 of 7 Minutes of the Sisters Cities Commission Monday, March 3, 2025, 5:15 pm 1. Called to Order by Larry Mack acting Chair. 2. Roll Call Members present: John Vorwerk, Larry Mack, Jayne Maday-Hulke, Ron Wendinger, Tony Beranek and Kathleen Backer Absent: Dick Seeboth, Ellie Sveine, Brian Filzen and Carolyn Marti-Smith 3. Election of Officers Jayne Maday-Hulke made a motion to postpone until we have full attendance. Tony Beranek seconded. Motion carried. 4. Approval of the Minutes of February 3, 2025 Ron Wendinger made a motion to accept the minutes, second by Tony Beranek. Motion carried. 5. Financial Report ending February 28, 2025. John Vorwerk made a motion to approve the financial report, second by Jayne Maday-Hulke. Motion carried. 6. Hans Joohs Cultural Exchange Program 6.1 Outbound Hans Joohs Intern Interviews were held and the committee recommended Martha Balge, as our outbound intern. Larry was going to let Lisa know. We also want to encourage Isaac Boettcher to apply again. Larry let us know that Zach Helget sent him an email stating that it would not work with his employer, and he was removing himself from the candidates list. 6.2 Inbound Hans Joohs Intern Larry Mack reported that he had communicated with Ted Marti and they would accept the intern at Schells Brewery. Since the County Administration was not sure of how this would work with them, and they were meeting to discuss the possibility on Tuesday the 4th the commission members felt Samual Knoops would be a great fit to go with Schells Brewery participating in the program. There was discussion around host families will return to this in April, once we get confirmation on who will be coming. 7. Recognition Award The reception will be held at Kegel Klub on April 7th at our meeting. We have checked with Kim Hanson and that date will work for them. Will ask Lisa Pelzel to invite the Friends of Sister Cities. It will be potluck with appetizers from Kegel Page 3 of 7 Klub. John Vorwerk will get the plaque ordered. We will meet in the Chamber then move to Kegel Klub. German Language Day Camp. This was tabled as two of the commission members were absent from the meeting. Jayne Maday-Hulke stated in talking with high school teacher Peter Engeldinger the dates for a 2025 camp do not work for him. Discussion will continue during the April meeting. The next meeting will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 5:15 pm at City Hall Conference Room. 2025 Brat Stand - Jayne Maday-Hulke will contact Cash Wise to schedule dates and communicate back with Lisa Pelzel. It was decided we will have two dates. One in June and the other in August.
