CITY OF NEWPORT BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT Thursday, February 16, 2023 MINUTES A regular meeting of the Newport Board of Adjustment was held on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. at the Newport Municipal Complex, 998 Monmouth Street, Newport, Kentucky. In attendance were: op Steve Mathisen, Susan Whitehead, Judy Lloyd, Chairperson, Tim Kiser, Jerry Newberry, y Zoning Administrator Brian Steffen, Assistant City Manager John Hayden. Oath of Office: lC Assistant City Manager John Hayden administered the Oath of Office to Steve Mathisen. BA-23-04 601 YORK STREET ca THE APPLICANT IS REQUESTING A 28-SPACE PARKING VARIANCE IN ORDER TO OPERATE A BEAUTY SALON REQUESTED BY: DARREN SPAHR ffi Brian Steffen, Zoning Administrator, gave a brief explanation of the application. He O stated that the City has no objection to the application. Darren Spahr, 32 Ridgeview Drive, stated he came up with 28 space requests based on the City’s Zoning Ordinance on the number of employees the salon will have. An Judy Lloyd stated that all adjacent property owners were notified and received no response. Susan Whitehead made a motion, seconded by Jerry Newberry, to approve case number BA-23-04 for the 28-space parking variance, to operate a beauty salon at 601 York Street. By granting this request, it will be in harmony with the general purpose and intent of the Newport Zoning Ordinance, as well as the adopted Comprehensive ot Plan of the City of Newport. It will not be injurious to the neighborhood, or otherwise detrimental to the public welfare. It will adversely affect public health, safety, or welfare. It will not alter the essential character of the general vicinity. It will not cause a hazard or N nuisance to the public. It will not allow an unreasonable circumvention of the requirements of the zoning regulations.
