CITY OF NEWPORT, KY SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS April 3, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. MINUTES CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL A Special Meeting was called to order by Mayor Thomas L. Guidugli Jr. at 5:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose room of the Newport Municipal Building at 998 Monmouth Street. The meeting was opened with a silent invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance. In Attendance: Commissioner Radwanski, Commissioner Smith-Morrow, Commissioner Rechtin, Vice Mayor Fennell, Mayor Guidugli Jr., City Manager Thomas Fromme, City Attorney Dan Braun, Police Chief Christopher Fangman, Fire Chief Frank Peluso, and City Clerk Tiffany Myers. Personnel Orders: COMMISSIONERS ORDER NO. R-2023-034 AN ORDER OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT, KENTUCKY, APPOINTING MEGAN WEAR TO THE POSITION OF POLICE RECRUIT IN THE NEWPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT EFFECTIVE APRIL 17, 2023. Motion by Commissioner Smith-Morrow, seconded by Vice Mayor Fennell, to approve Order R-2023-034 as read. Roll Call: Commissioner Radwanski Yes Commissioner Smith-Morrow Yes Commissioner Rechtin Yes Vice Mayor Fennell Yes Mayor Guidugli Jr. Yes Motion carried 5-0. Page 1 of 3 Comments: Chief Fangman gave the recruits their badges. He thanked the Commissioners, the Mayor, and the City Manager for supporting the police department. COMMISSIONERS ORDER NO. R-2023-035 AN ORDER OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT, KENTUCKY, APPOINTING SERGIO RAMIREZ-MORALES TO THE POSITION OF POLICE RECRUIT IN THE NEWPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT EFFECTIVE APRIL 17, 2023. Motion by Commissioner Rechtin, seconded by Vice Mayor Fennell, to approve Order R -2023-035 as read. Roll Call: Commissioner Radwanski Yes Commissioner Smith-Morrow Yes Commissioner Rechtin Yes Vice Mayor Fennell Yes Mayor Guidugli Jr. Yes Motion carried 5-0. COMMISSIONERS ORDER NO. R-2023-036 AN ORDER OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT, KENTUCKY, APPOINTING ROBERT MCKNIGHT TO THE POSITION OF POLICE RECRUIT IN THE NEWPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT EFFECTIVE APRIL 17, 2023. Motion by Vice Mayor Fennell, seconded by Commissioner Rechtin, to approve Order R-2023-036 as read. Roll Call: Commissioner Radwanski Yes Commissioner Smith-Morrow Yes Commissioner Rechtin Yes Vice Mayor Fennell Yes Mayor Guidugli Jr. Yes Page 2 of 3 Motion carried 5-0. Comments: Mayor Guidugli Jr. read the Oath of Office to the recruits and welcomed them to the City of Newport. Chief Fangman said they would attend the police academy in September, but in the meantime, they would receive in-house training. Adjournment: There being no further business to discuss, a motion by Vice Mayor Fennell, seconded by Commissioner Rechtin, to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried- so ordered.
