CITY OF NEWPORT, KY
CAUCUS MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Monday, May 6, 2024
MINUTES
Call to Order:
A caucus meeting was called to order by Mayor Guidugli Jr. on May 6, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in the
Multipurpose Room of the Newport Municipal Building at 998 Monmouth Street.
In attendance were:
Commissioner Radwanski, Commissioner Smith-Morrow, Commissioner Rechtin, Vice Mayor Fennell,
Mayor Guidugli Jr., Assistant City Manager John Hayden, City Attorney Daniel Braun, Police Chief
Christopher Fangman, Fire Chief Frank Peluso, and City Clerk Tiffany Myers.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS/PROPOSED LEGISLATION/CITY BUSINESS
City Manager Updates:
1. The Margaritaville project is moving forward.
2. Peace Bell Development: City Manager Fromme gave a brief history of the land in that area and the
developer's original plan for the site. The developer did not need to work with the city, but he wanted
something that would benefit the city and its citizens.
3. The Steel Mill site has new owners.
4. Southbank received grant money and is helping with beautification efforts at Dave Cowens Drive
corridor.
5. The US 27 project from 2022 is finally moving along.
6. The Mural Committee and the Park Committee will be meeting soon.
7. The Tree Committee, with the help of ReNewport, is working on planting trees with the grant obtained
by ReNewport.
8. We are working with KYTC on rescheduling another meeting so that they can present updates on the
4th Street Bridge.
Parking Issues:
City Manager Fromme provided the Board with programs the city had in the past to help alleviate
parking issues. He advised the Board that he is for restarting the parking sticker program because it
allowed us to track out-of-state plates. Plus, the city must maintain brick alleys, and the cost to maintain
these alleys is over $500,000. City Manager Fromme will let the Board decide on a plan for parking
issues.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business to discuss, Mayor Guidugli Jr. adjourned the meeting. The caucus meeting was
adjourned at approximately 8:00 p.m.
