CITY OF NEWPORT, KY REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Monday, June 17, 2024 MINUTES Call to Order: Mayor Guidugli Jr. called a regular meeting to order on June 17, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Newport Municipal Building at 998 Monmouth Street. The meeting was opened with a silent invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance. In attendance were: op y Commissioner Radwanski, Commissioner Smith-Morrow, Commissioner Rechtin, Vice Mayor Fennell, Assistant City Manager John Hayden, City Attorney Daniel Braun, Police Chief Christopher Fangman, Fire Chief Frank Peluso, City Clerk Tiffany Myers, Planning and lC Development Director Brian Steffen, Finance Director Lenny Kuntz, and Finance Officer Matt Shipp. PRESENTATIONS, AWARDS, PROCLAMATIONS  ca City Manager Fromme presented Jan Knepshield with a Newport Leadership Award for his tireless devotion to serving his community over the years. Mayor Guidugli called for a five-minute recess at 7:16 pm. The meeting resumed at 7:22 pm with the ffi following members present; Commissioner Radwanski, Commissioner Smith-Morrow, Commissioner Rechtin, Vice Mayor Fennell, and Mayor Guidugli.  O Steve Crawford and Dan Martin with Assured Partners went over the city’s insurance renewal proposal for this year. PUBLIC FORUM An Newport Ambassador Charles Williams thanked everyone who stopped by the information booth. He met many local citizens and people from all over the world. DEPARTMENT HEAD COMMENTS  Chief Peluso stated he has received three applications since this meeting tonight.  Finance Director Lenny Kuntz stated he is waiting for Campbell PVA to send over the tax role to estimate the compensating rate. CITY MANAGER COMMENTS  Thanked the leadership this Board has shown. op y  Happy that Jan was able to receive this award and is planning on giving more of these awards in the future. BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS Commissioner Rechtin: lC ca  Jan Knepshield was a great leader on the various Boards he has served.  Daylin did a great job planning the Juneteenth event.  Italianfest was a successful event. Commissioner Smith-Morrow: ffi  Congratulated Jan Knepshield on this award.  Juneteenth and Italianfest were great events that were well attended. Vice Mayor Fennell: O  Thanked the city staff for their hard work on the budget.  Glad to cut the ribbon for Italianfest. An Commissioner Radwanski:  Jan Knepshield is a very candid and helpful man, and he was glad he received this award.  Thanked Public Works for cleaning up Italianfest.  Attended the KLC Summer Summit along with a few staff members. He was amazed at how highly Newport is spoken about. ot Mayor Guidugli:  A record year in attendance for the Garden Walk. N  Italianfest and Juneteenth had a good turnout.  Wanted to recognize that June is Pride Month.  The Budget outlook is good, and we are looking forward to when we can have pet projects.
