The Borough of Newtown Historic District Commission Newtown, Connecticut Public Hearing minutes May 15, 2025 Edmond Town Hall Mary Hawley Room, 45 Main Street A public hearing of the Borough of Newtown Historic District Commission regarding an application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for 11 Main Street was continued on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 7 pm, in the Mary Hawley Room of Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, Newtown. Present: Stephanie Gaston, chair; Betsy Kenyon, vice chair; Karen Boyle, Mark Poirer and Bruce Walczak (Alternate). Absent: Sarah Phillips, Greg Smith (Alternate). Call To Order Chairperson Stephanie Gaston called the public hearing to order at 7:01 pm. The hearing began with Chairperson Gaston announcing the applicants have withdrawn their application. She read a letter received from Kim Uniacke, requesting cancellation of this meeting. Mrs Uniacke said she had spoken with her neighbor at 9 Main Street and has promised to plant arbor vitae near the property line. The Uniackes will not build a privacy fence, the letter also noted. Mrs Uniacke’s letter also said she and her husband would like to skip any further discussion on their driveway and the request for a turnaround to be installed. They will remove one of the deck supports to provide additional room to turn around within their driveway, the letter also stated. Chairperson Gaston will add the letter to the original application for 11 Main Street. Chairperson Gaston said she sent a letter to the applicants confirming the approval of a lamp post and denial of cupola as discussed during the April 24 Borough Historic District Commission. Commissioner Poirer made a motion to close the application received from owners of 11 Main Street, dated March 24, 2025, due to fact the owners are no longer pursuing the application for the privacy fence and turnaround/parking space. Karen Boyle seconded the motion. There was no further discussion. Motion approved. Adjournment Having no further business, Commissioner Poirer made a motion to adjourn the public hearing at 7:08 pm, which was seconded by Karen Boyle. Motion approved.
