ACTION: Adopted [Unanimous] AYES: Doyle, Johnson, McClellan, Royster, Smigiel Jr., Thomas Jr., Alexander ABSENT: Riddick CEREMONIAL MATTER Mayor Alexander presented the following Proclamation to the members of the AKA IOTA OMEGA Chapter Sorority Incorporated: WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, was established on January 15, 1908, on the campus of Howard University, in Washington, D.C., to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college-educated women, and to study and alleviate problems concerning girls and women to improve their social stature; and WHEREAS, on December 1, 1922, the Iota Omega became Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated® ninth graduate chapter and the second oldest chapter in the Mid-Atlantic Region, and for 100 years has remained steadfast in their mission to inspire and impower others; and WHEREAS, Iota Omega has a history of members being change makers, innovators, and trailblazers to include the first African American woman to be appointed to the Norfolk School Board, Ms. Vivian Carter Mason; and 2  December 6, 2022 WHEREAS, Iota Omega has been an impactful organization, acting as a voice for the African American community in the region, working to advance civil rights, encouraging life-long learning, and serving as a pillar of strength for those in need of fellowship, friendship, and empowerment; and WHEREAS, the 208 women of the Iota Omega Chapter lead by Anordia T. Weatherly, President, proudly celebrate 100 years of a rich legacy in the city of Norfolk. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, I, KENNETH COOPER ALEXANDER, do hereby extend congratulations to the members of the Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® for their 100 years of “Service to All Mankind”, and recognize them for their sisterhood and service in Hampton Roads. Derrick Isabell, 888 Magazine Lane, #3L, spoke regarding the Isabell Foundation's annual 24-hour virtual fundraiser to raise money for families in need, where he is the host and DJ. ADJOURNMENT 5
