Discussion by committee and staff suggest moving the parking and playground to access the two-way

alley avoids conflicts with traffic on 24 (though driveway cut is possible in the future if additional

i) City of Norman Updates: (Angelo, James)
Road Diets are a bit delayed as they are waiting on the green treatment materials but they are on the verge of
completion; they may end up having extra green treatment material from the contract and will use on McGee (focus on
Monroe Elementary area until it runs out)
Hwy9 project is a little behind but may be completed mid to late July; project is being viewed as a nice “showcase” trail
More of the artistic bike ranks (approx. 4) will be installed; some were saved for Lindsey and were waiting for the
road/landscaping to be completed. More racks in another round may happen in the future.
CART Update
CART recorded 563 passengers that brought a bike with them on the bus for the month of June. This accounts for 1.6% of the
total passengers for the month.
ii) OU Crimson Cruisers Bikeshare (Kyle) - Lee Krumholz indicated that Tulsa Bikeshare is purchasing bikes
and docks and will be maintaining and running the system in-house, including a Bikeshare Coordinator.
iii) OU Bike Committee Update (Lee) – new OU President may mean opportunity for changes in
communication, etc.
iv) Bike Map – City version (James) – no news at present
v) Planning for web-based version options – (Meghan)
Meghan passed out sample graphic to begin discussion on creating more promotional routes for all different types of
cyclists to promote ridership in the community. Homework was given for every member to create 3-4 routes in their

BAC Committee Homework
1. Take the existing City of Norman Bike Map and identify routes from one point to a destination
that might be ideal for cycling.
Consider the from point being from residential areas (of all types - denser housing/apartment
areas are ideal to ‘start’ the route from).
Then identify nodes where someone might want to go:
grocery store and restaurants node = “Food Run Route”
coffee shops = “Coffee Route”
Library = “Riding and Reading Route”
City Hall = “Good Citizen Route”
Parks = “Riding and Recreating Route”
Pool = “Riding and Swimming Route”
Then consider nice bike ride loops by comfort level (easy, moderate, challenging).
2. Use the City of Norman Bike Map to use a highlighter to create routes that YOU might do or like
to do (or friends/family might do).
Number or label them.
If everyone draws 3-4 routes in their general part of Norman we should have a good foundation to
create additional routes for other parts of the Norman that are missed.
Then we will create individual maps that can highlight each route to promote that route. The
route can be for a trip purpose or for a loop/exercise/recreation ride.
Each number on the main map can hyperlink to an inset map that shows how to make the turns
on the route.
