Minutes for August 12, 2019 Meeting, 6:15 PM

Roll Call and Introduction of Visitors:
Members present: Hal Cantwell – Chair and recreational cyclist. Former racer. BLN chair.
George Ahmadi – OU and Bike commuter
Chris Southern – Mountain Bikes
Sarah Shanks – Racer & Co-owner of Neighborhood Bicycles
J. McCarty – Mountain Bikes
Michelle Carr – Former racer and now advocate for local bicycle use. Jackson PTA.
Lee Krumholz – Recreational and commuter. BikeOklahoma.

• Approval of July Meeting Minutes- New Business for August 2019 agenda
o Agenda Minutes
o Briggs discussed Creekside Bike Skills Park. There have been some people trespassing on the
property and the city will post no trespassing signs. PBR has suggested a maintenance plan and
would like to get together with BAC for a walk through. Also, BAC will need to discuss this with BLN
and Team Warmup to determine their interest in being involved.
o City of Norman Updates:
o Angelo Lombardo Norman Transportation initiatives: Norman city council has accepted the bike
counters from OU and now owns them. City will use them to count pedestrians and bikes this fall
September 9-15 or later and also in the spring at 8-9 locations. ACOG and the city can then use
this data to advocate for greater funding for bike infrastructure. Finding someone to take the lead
on getting the data should be on the agenda for the next meeting.
o Thomas Zermeno NPD: Football and parade seasons are coming up and the Norman PD bike team
will be busy. Thomas is interested in doing educational work and George and Sarah volunteered to
assist in recruiting participants.
o City of Norman: Taylor Johnson is now the public transit coordinator for Norman. Norman is
running its own bus service.
o Crimson Cruisers: OU will continue with this for another year and then will consider other options,
especially ebikes and scooters.
o General: Jackson bike rodeo is scheduled for Aug. 27. 6-8 PM. Volunteers should arrive shortly
after 5 to help set up. Will include Helmet fit and giveaway, Safe bike station
(maintenance), bike traffic rule station, bike skills route and bike tour.
o General: Norman Conquest Very successful this year. 583 people registered and 44 did the
Norman town tour. BLN donated $11,200 to Camp Claphans.
o Mr Dawson presented his opinion that Norman should not be promoting bike lanes as he considers
them unsafe.
