City of Norman Bicycle Advisory Committee Minutes for July 11, 2022, Meeting at 6:15 PM City of Norman Municipal Complex 201 West Gray, Executive Conference Room ● Roll Call of Members and Introduction of Visitors o Members present: Nathan Barron, Chris Southern, Michael Dick, o Sarah Shanks, Hal Cantwell o Ex-Officio members present: James Briggs, Thomas Zermeno o Visitors present: Kevin Tobar, Jack Dawson ● Approval of April 11, 2022, Meeting Minutes o Motion to approve minutes by Michael Dick, seconded by Chris Southern o Unanimous vote to approve minutes Agenda BAC Member Updates – Hal Cantwell informed that a new member is currently in the works. o City of Norman Updates: o Thomas Zermeno, PD – Currently gearing up for fall. All summer events finished. o James Briggs, NPaRD – Reaves and Griffin parks still under construction. Some slight rain delays but nothing major. Bike count is finished. Bike to work day concluded without incident. ● Hal Cantwell introduces a new Asphalt Art intersection project. ○ No objections are given and Hal agrees to move forward with pursuing the project further. ● Assignment from Community Planning and Transportation Committee ○ Sarah Shanks inquires about the definition of “high motor vehicle traffic” in the lane type recommendations. Hal answers that it is up to the city engineers. ● Visitor: ○ Kevin Tobar expressed support for Asphalt Art project referencing two bicycle/car incidents that occurred while attending high school. Also suggested 24th and Lindsey as a good intersection for asphalt art. o Jack Dawson spoke about frustration with the Rock Creek bridge being out of commission since February. Suggests that bike detour signs be posted before work starts. Expressed concern with walking bikes across crosswalks during bike to work ride. Suggested no motorized vehicles signs be posted on the Legacy Trail. ● Adjournment o Motion made Chris Southern, seconded by Sarah Shanks. Pass unanimous. Page 1
