MINUTES
The Environmental Control Advisory Board of the City of Norman, Cleveland County, State of
Oklahoma, will meet in Regular Session in the Utilities Conference Room at the Development
Center, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 5:30 PM and notice of the agenda of the meeting was
posted at the Norman Municipal Building at 201 West Gray, Development center at 225 N.
Webster, and on the City website at least 24 hours prior to the beginning of the meeting.

2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FOR THE JUNE 18, 2025 MEETING
Motion to approve made by Board member Cretsinger, Seconded by Board member

3. PRESENTATION ABOUT THE URBAN FORESTRY MASTER PLAN.
City Forester expressed the following and that he needed more manpower to assist
him with these efforts.
- would like to get more neighborhoods involved in urban forestry because the
trees prevent a lot of erosion which protects millions of gallons of storm water from
pollution.
- estimated 1200 acres of parks
- estimated 6000 trees within the City of Norman
- estimated 1000 trees in the Westwood neighborhood alone
- 36% tree coverage in the city to include the trees in the East Norman area
- 19% tree coverage in the metro/urban areas
- Parks and Rec does plant reviews/tree identification to keep track of the native
and invasive trees within the city.
- would like to see more developers and citizens planting more native trees than
invasive trees.

- Chinese Pistache
- Silver-leaf Maple

Monarchs in the Park - Discussed whether they would host a booth at the event.
Decided to add this as an action item at the next meeting.

- interested in doing a video of doable material to educate the public on the does
and don'ts of how to handle grass clippings, recycling, and electronic waste

disposal while promoting the Household Hazardous Waste Facility as well as
Fertile Ground.
- ask the City of Normans Chief Communications Officer to attend the next
meeting to figure out the media options available.
