CITY OF NORMAN, OK ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL ADVISORY BOARD MEETING Development Center, Conference Room B, 225 N. Webster Avenue, Norman, OK 73069 Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 5:30 PM MINUTES The Environmental Control Advisory Board of the City of Norman, Cleveland County, State of Oklahoma, will meet in Regular Session in the Utilities Conference Room at the Development Center, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 5:30 PM and notice of the agenda of the meeting was posted at the Norman Municipal Building at 201 West Gray, Development center at 225 N. Webster, and on the City website at least 24 hours prior to the beginning of the meeting. ROLL CALL 1. PRESENT Board member Deborah Cretsinger Chairman Lainey Phillips Board member Bob Nairn Vice Chair Nathalie Rocher Board member Debbie Smith Board Member Eileen Grzybowski Board Member Todd Howery ABSENT Board member Inger Giuffrida Board member Sara Bondy INTRODUCE NEW MEMBERS, GUESTS & STAFF Jerry Gates, Environmental Services Assistant Manager Katrina Boteler, Environmental Compliance Specialist ANNOUNCEMENTS Need to discuss the SWAG for the group. Bottles may need to be replenished or choose another alternative. Recycling magnets MINUTES 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FOR THE JULY 16, 2025 MEETING ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL ADVISORY BOARD MEETING - Wednesday, August 20, 2025 Page |1 Motion to approve made by Chairman Phillips, Seconded by Board member Cretsinger. Voting Yea: Board member Cretsinger, Chairman Phillips, Board member Nairn, Vice Chair Rocher, Board member Smith, Board Member Grzybowski, Board Member Howery DISCUSSION ITEMS 3. DISCUSSION AND/OR APPROVAL OF UPCOMING EVENT(S) PARTICIPATION This item will be tabled and added as an action item on next months meeting so they can figure out who will be able to assist with the table and the group will be able to vote on it. Monarchs in the Park will be held at Legacy Park this year on September 28th from 11 am to 4 pm. Options discussed were the native plant pollinator education and the recycling bin. Lake Thunderbird Workshop and Clean up event will be October 26th from 1 pm to 4 pm. No participation during the event is needed but participation afterwards during the cleanup would be greatly appreciated. ACTION ITEMS 4. DISCUSSION AND/OR APPROVAL OF THE EDUCATIONAL TOPICS FOR POSTING This item will be tabled because they need the Chief Communications officer to come and discuss these items and she was not able to make this meeting. Other ideas mentioned were banners being put up in addition to social media and the newspapers. Each banner could have a different educational piece listed on it. Permission would be required to post the banners up on the street posts like they do the Christmas reefs during the holidays. Discussed the usage of water by the Parks Department. Also, further educate people such as the sprinkler companies so they aren't misinforming their customers. It was also discussed to use the student groups as a sounding board as well. MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTS Curious about the "board merge/consolidation". No one has heard about this or have any information in regards to it. Solar panels will be installed on the Household Hazardous Waste. Transfer Station will eventually have panels put up as well. Hazmat, the art sculpture for the hazardous waste facility is almost ready to be put in place. He has been created out of old/abandoned dumpsters. Putting together a fundraiser called Bees, Beers & Bites on September 18th from 6 pm to 8 pm. A portion of the sales will be donated to the Norman Parks Foundation to help fund the ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL ADVISORY BOARD MEETING - Wednesday, August 20, 2025 Page |2 Monarchs in the Park Festival. Participants will paint and decorate their own bee hotel. Hotels are $10 and interested parties can register online. Out of the 4 clubs, 2 of them applied for the rotary international grants and they were approved for those. The other two clubs will apply next year. They will get started on the recycle bin pilot project in an effort to get the city recyling. They are going to start with Legacy park and another one, unsure of which one was picked.
