WORK SESSION
201 W. Gray – Building A, Conference Room D
Presentation and discussion of the Draft Historic Preservation
Guidelines.
The consultant from Mainstreet Architects reviewed many of the updates to the Historic
District Guidelines.
Some notable differences: map were relocated to the rear of the guidelines, many new
diagrams are included, the table of contents and information have been reorganized, the
glossary and appendices have been expanded, and a brief history of Norman was added.
The composition and expanded graphics are commendable.
Different items were touched on throughout the discussion, such as terminology, making
more requests administrative bypass, allowable non-contributing structure requests,
consistency throughout the guidelines, adding some material terminology to the glossary,
accessory structures and their size. More work will be needed on sections pertaining to
secondary structures, doors, and windows.
Staff will be compiling all written comments from commissioners, staff, and the State
Historic Preservation Office.
Mainstreet Architects is sending the guidelines to a copy editor this week for review.
Several meetings for public input will be held.
Adjourned 5:35pm.
