HOSTED BY THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION
MINUTES
January 21, 2019
The Mayor and the Norman Human Rights Commission hosted the Interfaith Breakfast on
January 21, 2019, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The Interfaith Breakfast was held at McFarlin
Memorial United Methodist Church located at 419 South University Boulevard. Notice of the
Interfaith Breakfast was timely posted at City Hall, and the event was open to the public.
Although the Interfaith Breakfast was not a regularly scheduled meeting of the Human Rights
Commission, a quorum of the Commission was present; therefore, a summary of the Interfaith
Breakfast is recorded as required by the Open Meeting Act.
PRESENT: Commissioners Kay Ham, Mary Lou Drywater,
Marjaneh Seraifi-Pour, Daniel Dukes, Sage
Mauldin, Chris Nanny
ABSENT: Commissioners Kirsten Edwards, Jackie Farley
Reverend Chebon Kernell, Executive Secretary of Native American and Indigenous Ministries
for the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, presented a keynote
address entitled, “Tearing Down the Walls of Privilege and Assimilation.” Inspirational
commentary and prayers were shared by leaders representing a number of diverse faiths.
