HOSTED BY THE NORMAN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION
MINUTES
January 20, 2020
The Mayor and the Norman Human Rights Commission hosted the Interfaith Breakfast on January
20, 2020, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The Interfaith Breakfast was held at McFarlin Memorial United
Methodist Church located at 419 South University Boulevard. Notice of the Interfaith Breakfast was
timely posted at City Hall, and the event was open to the public. Although the Interfaith Breakfast
was not a regularly scheduled meeting of the Norman Human Rights Commission, a quorum of the
Commission was present; therefore, a summary of the Interfaith Breakfast is recorded as required by
the Open Meeting Act.
PRESENT: Commissioners Kay Ham, Marjaneh Seirafi-Pour, Daniel
Dukes, Jackie Farley, Chris Nanny, Sage Mauldin, Christina

ABSENT: Commissioner Ellen Kraft
STAFF PRESENT: Assistant City Attorney Kristina Bell, Major Ricky Jackson,
Norman Police Officer Ali Jaffery, Legal Admin Tech Sarah

Charles A. Kimball, Presidential Professor and Chair of the Department of Religious Studies at the
University of Oklahoma presented the keynote speech entitled, “Truth over Fear: Nurturing
Constructive Interfaith Relations in the 21st Century.” The final report and recommendations of the
Inclusive Community Subcommittee (ICS) was presented by ICS Co-Chairs Marjaneh Seirafi-Pour
and Daniel Dukes. Inspirational commentary and prayers were shared by leaders representing a
number of diverse faiths.
