CITY OF NORMAN, OK JOINT STRONG TOWNS LEADERSHIP TEAM MEETING WITH PLANNING COMMISSION AND CITY COUNCIL Municipal Building, Council Chambers, 201 West Gray, Norman, OK 73069 Monday, August 28, 2023 at 10:00 AM MINUTES It is the policy of the City of Norman that no person or groups of persons shall on the grounds of race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, age, place of birth, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, familial status, marital status, including marriage to a person of the same sex, disability, retaliation, or genetic information, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or otherwise subjected to discrimination in employment activities or in all programs, services, or activities administered by the City, its recipients, sub-recipients, and contractors. Strong Towns Approach and Core Insights a. Reminder that Strong Towns is sharing content every 2-3 weeks on the Norman Community Action Lab Course b. 5 Struggles Identified by the Ad Hoc Committee c. Complex vs. Complicated 3. Meeting Schedule and Events a. Event #3 is taking place on November 7th and 8th i. More details coming soon b. Next Virtual Briefing Date is Oct 23, 2023  Edward Erfurt stated that by looking at ADUs you can have a discussion that would tie in pattern zoning, minimum lot sizes, medium density housing, as well as reviewing codes and policies. These are the 5 items that the Ad Hoc Committee has identified as being priority items that they would like to work on and possibly bring forward to Council.  Chuck Marohn talked about the idea of complex vs. complicated.  Councilmember Peacock had an update about what was discussed at the City Council Retreat. He stated that ADUs were a big topic that they talked about and how that is possibly doable. He then mentioned pattern zoning and that we have the money in the budget for this. Norman City Council and the Planning Commission will be invited to attend the meetings. These are not regular meetings of the City Council or Planning Commission; however, this notice is being posted in compliance with the Oklahoma Open Meetings Act in the event a quorum of Council is present.
