Discussed Importance of libraries, especially the diversity programming offers. We need more
emphasis to diversity and inclusion in our city. Change isn’t possible without libraries and
branch special input for access. CART does not currently make library stops, but now that the
City controls CART there is more freedom to change and control routes. There will be new
program for Book Club with the Mayor in August.

in a dystopian society), rain barrel program for the City of Norman to show how to have or make
one, and a City of Norman storm water presentation. There will 18 volunteers as part of the
exhibit, some shelving as well as other tasks trying to tailor experience to them.

to conditions need hardy varieties. Glass boxes arriving next week for children’s area and local
history room. Question of when will it open regularly being asked, should be soon, floors and
paint are going on. Dates set for delivery of new materials: Aug 22nd shelving DVD & audio

damaged books: some given to Friend of the Library if in condition to sell, some given away,

BOARD COMMENTS
Sue Ringus: Entrepreneurial Program from Kazakhstan were brought to the library and made
members for a month while there. The group found it incredible and was part of their first week
in Norman. NPS stories of the month shared
Erica Bird: Norman Board of Realtors currently alternating monthly meetings between Norman
Public Schools Admin building and City Council Chambers, arranging to have the Central
Library be a 3rd location to alternate between. Once open the first meeting held there will
include a tour, it’s important for realtors engaging with outsiders considering settling in Norman
to see the type of culture and public offerings we have.
Erica Bird: Urban Land Institute is also interested in coming down for a tour before the library
opens. There are over 250 members in the state, some in Norman but most in Oklahoma City
and Norman. This is also an opportunity for the larger market areas to come to Norman to see
the type of projects the city is doing and hopefully engage these thoughtful local developers to
make more investments in Norman.

MSR, architect for East and Central library, also designed the Tulsa library and won awards.
