TREE BOARD October 7, 2019 The Tree Board of the City of Norman, Cleveland County, State of Oklahoma, met in the Study Session Room on the 7th day of October 2019, at 4:00 P.M. ITEM 1, being: ROLL CALL Present: Chairman Menzie and Members Grisso, Huffman, Janaway, Lavastida, Spain, Tedder-Loffland and Winegardner Tardy: Todd Fagin City Officials: James Briggs, Park Planner Karla Sitton, Administrative Technician IV ITEM 2, being: APPROVAL OF THE SEPTEMBER 9, 2019 MEETING MINUTES Member Huffman made the motion and Member Tedder-Loffland seconded to approve the minutes. The vote was taken with the following results: YEAH: Chairman Menzie and Members Grisso, Huffman, Janaway, Lavastida, Spain, Tedder-Loffland and Winegardner NAY: None Member Fagin arrived at the meeting at 4:09 p.m. __________________________________________________________________________________________________ ITEM 3, being: APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA Member Winegardner made the motion and Member Spain seconded to approve the agenda. The vote was taken with the following results: YEAH: Chairman Menzie and Members Fagin, Grisso, Huffman, Janaway, Lavastida, Spain, Tedder-Loffland and Winegardner NAY: None ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ ITEM 4, being: SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS Chair Menzie asked if there was an update on the ReLeaf Berry Project and Member Janaway said no, nothing new at this time. Member Fagin said he will set up at the 2nd Friday Art Walk, weather permitting, and suggested passing out information on the Tree Board Ordinance. Member Spain said he is working on the brochure and will get it ready. Tree Board Page 2 of 2 October 7, 2019 ITEM 5, being: ANNUAL TREE STORY CONTEST Chair Menzie said the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place prizes are the same for the 4th Grade and 5th Grade classes as follows: 1st Place – Action Camera, 2nd Place – Telescope, and 3rd Place – Geodes. He said all the prizes for the Tree Story Contest are donated by Tree Wizard. Member Fagin said he sent the Annual Tree Story Contest flyer to Peach Jar (online bulletin board for Norman Public School) about two weeks ago and he will re-send it again at the beginning of November. ITEM 6, being: MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTS Mr. James Briggs, Park Planner, gave an update to the City Forester stating the position was offered to Tim Vermillion. He said Mr. Vermillion was the City’s Forester approximately 10-12 years ago and he should start to work in a couple of weeks. Mr. Briggs suggested discussing the possible City licensing requirement for Arborists when the City Forester begins and the Board agreed. Member Tedder-Loffland asked when money is raised for the Tree Board where does it go? Chair Menzie said it goes into the Norman Park Foundation, but is earmarked for Tree Board. Member Tedder-Loffland said she no longer lives in Ward 2, but has moved to Ward 4 and wondered if that would make a difference on her remaining on the Tree Board. Staff said being a Tree Board member is not Ward specific; therefore, she can remain on the Board. __________________________________________________________________________________________________ ITEM 7, being: ADJOURNMENT Member Huffman made the motion and Member Spain seconded to adjourn.
