EQUITY AND INCLUSION COMMITTEE MINUTES Meeting Date: February 10, 2022 Meeting Location: North Kansas City, City Hall Members Present: Ashley Phillips Members Absent: Zetta Hamersley Daniel Trotter Gabriela Flores Martin Newton April Jones Bess Bailey Yvonne Salinas Also Present: Kim Nakahodo, Interim City Administrator Casey Campbell, Human Resources Manager Bryant DeLong, Mayor Ana Pellumbi, Council Liaison 1. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:03 PM 2. ATTENDANCE AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES Ashley Phillips, Zetta Hamersley, Daniel Trotter, Gabriela Flores, Martin Newton, April Jones, Yvonne Salinas and Bess Bailey were present. The committee moved to approve the minutes of January 13, 2022. All were in favor. 3. COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC None. 4. OLD BUSINESS None. 5. DISCUSSION ON DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION TRAINING Committee members discussed training options and different courses for municipal employees and those serving on boards and commissions. 6. DISCUSSION ON STRATEGIC PLAN RFQ Kim Nakahodo went over the cost for the strategic plan and the submitted RFQ. The committee decided to schedule a work session to interview the potential consultant. 7. NOMINATIONS FOR COMMITTEE POSITIONS Daniel Trotter was nominated as Co-Chair. All were in favor. Zetta Hamersley was nominated as Sectary. All were in favor. 8. RECAP ON NKC BUSINESS COUNCIL PRESENTATION The committee discussed the presentation given to the North Kansas City Business Council. The Equity and Inclusion Committee will circle back with the Business Council to discuss next steps. The committee will determine a clear goal for their wants/needs from the Business Council and will provide research and data to show why posting which businesses are inclusive is important to consumers. 9. NKC HIGH SCHOOL MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL Kim Nakahodo explained that the City will give a tourism grant to North Kansas City High School for a multicultural event on March 29th 5:00 – 8:00 PM. The committee expressed interest in setting up a table at the event. 10. COMMITTEE UPDATES The sub-committees gave updates branding and the NKC United initiative. 11. COMMUNITY MEMBER COMMENTS None. 12. COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS The voicemails for the Equity and Inclusion Committee a being forwarded vie email to the council liaison. 13. ANNOUNCEMENTS Ashley Phillips shared information about the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture digital museum. 14. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 PM.
