NORWICH ICE RINK AUTHORITY
MINUTES FROM MEETING HELD FEBRUARY 19, 2009
Authority Attendance: Mike Goldblatt, Doug Barlow, Cheryl Ritacco, Judy Deglin
and Dean Pfeifer
Absent: Mike Schermerhorn and Rich Wolak
Guest: Jim Sanca
Meeting was called to order by Michael Glotblatt at 6:05 pm, a quorum was present.
Minutes from January, submitted by Cheryl Ritacco, were read and approved. Motion
to accept made by Doug Barlow; seconded by Judy Deglin.

There was no correspondence
Reports
Manager Jim Sanca reported on the following:
• Special Olympics finished their year with a local competition at The Rink on
February 19. This is the 6th year that the program held the event at The Rink
• The Girl Scouts of Norwich are holding their weekly meetings at The Rink with
20 participants attending
• 300 members of a local Baptist Church attended a service at The Rink during the
month of January
• The Rink hosted the Holy Family youth group
• Local groups taking advantage of public skate at The Rink are: Boy Scouts, Girl
Scouts and Mitchell College
• The free admission for Norwich residents on Saturdays have been successful
• Learn to Skate will present 2 performances of Wizard of Oz with 40 skaters
• The winter 2009 session of Learn to Skate has 270 registered skaters just shy of
The Rinks goal of 300
• Norwich Skating School membership is up to 22 members and continues to rise
• Adult Freestyle sessions continue on Sunday mornings and Saturday night
freestyle will begin in April
• Southeastern Connecticut Youth Hockey will hold 3 tournaments at The Rink in
March
• Tryouts for the youth league are scheduled for April 4-9
• The Rink will offer a camp at the end of March for skaters interested in trying out
for SECYH. Bernie Cassell with run camp
• Griffin Youth Hockey rented ice mid February for a coaching clinic for their
organization. The program expressed interest in renting ice at The Rink next
session due to growing numbers. Jim Sanca will be meeting with league officials
to discuss further
Old Business
Doug Barlow updated the Authority on the status of the NFA hockey program for 2009-
2010. Gary Mackowicki has announced that there will be a team next year with or
without a co-op. The Rink has already been contacted to discuss practice ice.

There was no new business

The meeting was adjourned at 6:45pm. Motion to accept made by Dean Pfeifer;
seconded by Judy Deglin.
