Reports
Manager Jim Sanca reported on the following:
Great Skate to Ice Out Cancer event will take place May 9 at The Rink.
Learn to Skate program has decent numbers for the spring. Would like to see
numbers grow next session.
Norwich Skating School, with 55 participants, will compete in 3 upcoming
competitions spanning from Massachusetts to Florida.
Southeastern Connecticut Youth Hockey (SECYH) held tryouts April 4 and 5. By
next week Jim should be able to get a number from president of organization on
how many teams they will be able to field next year. With that information Rink
can estimate ice time rentals for the 2009 – 2010 season. Preliminary numbers
indicate the same number of teams as this year.
Tryouts for SECYH girl’s hockey will hold their tryouts at the end of the month.
Jim is waiting to hear from the Griffin youth program about using The Rink’s ice
for games for specific divisions.
The Girls Youth Hockey organization has been contacted regarding using the
facility for tournaments. They have been having difficulty securing ice at other
locations. These tournaments would happen in 2010.
Spring hockey clinics have begun for mites, squirts, pee wees, bantams and adults
as well as Bernie Cassell’s Hockey Skills clinic. The clinics are struggling with
number of participants.
The Rink continues to offer free admission to Norwich residents during the first
Saturday of every month.
Jim has spoken with NFA coach Chris Discordia, he has supplied The Rink with a
preliminary game schedule. There are also captain’s practices being discussed for
August.
Utility costs were slightly less than same time last year.
The Rink continues to run in the black and Jim feels that the last quarter of the
fiscal year will continue on this path.
If the YMCA does not hold their summer camps, the Norwich Rec is considering
expanding their program and it maybe an opportunity for The Rink to work with
the Rec on their offerings.

New Business
The Rink received a letter from Tim Yuhas stating that Yuhas Sports Training has
agreed to donate a Free Motion Cable Cross Machine and a Power Skater Machine with
a combined value of approximately $3,000. The Authority brought donation to vote
and was unanimously approved to accept donation.
Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 7:00pm. Motion to accept made by Rich Wolak;
seconded by Judy Deglin.
Respectfully submitted,
Cheryl Ritacco
