NORWICH ICE RINK AUTHORITY MINUTES FROM MEETING HELD October 15, 2009 Authority Attendance: Mike Goldblatt, Doug Barlow, Rich Wolak, Mike Schermerhorn and Judy Deglin Absent: Cheryl Ritacco and Dean Pfeifer Guest: Jim Sanca Meeting was called to order by Michael Goldblatt at 6:09 pm, a quorum was present. There were no minutes available from the last meeting. Mike informed us that Dean Pfeifer moved from the area and will no longer be able to be part of the authority. Public Comments There were no public comments Correspondence There was no correspondence Reports Manager Jim Sanca reported on the following: Jim began his report with the learn to skate program. The Norwich classes have a total of 95 students and the Connecticut College classes have 20. He felt the CC program would increase in the near future since it’s just getting started and the shoreline communities would be able to support this type of program financially. The Nutcracker on Ice will be performed on November 21st and 22nd. There are 50 children participating with 34 soloists and 15 learn to skate participants. The Rink is hosting a figure skating test session on October 17th. Representing the Norwich Figure Skating Club at the 2010 New England Regional championships in Vermont are Courtney Studwell, Annie Ricupero, Alyssa Katsoff and Sarah Sanca. Jim reported that the rink is once again decorating a part of the rink as a haunted house on October 23 and 24th. He hopes this will bring up the numbers for public skating as it has done in the past. The Rink has rented a booth at the Crystal Mall on kids’ day, October 31st. They have done this in addition to other advertizing they are pushing in the area. Flyers have been sent to the following school: Lyme School District Preston School District Colchester School District Norwich School District Griswold School district Putnam School District Lisbon School District Sacred Heart School St. Patrick’s School Various line items were discussed in the budget. A new sign was a topic of conversation once again. The entrance is too dark and at times looks as though The Rink is not open. Jim said he would get some information on signage including possibly an electronic display. The meeting was adjourned at 7:24pm. Respectfully submitted, Doug Barlow
