NORWICH ICE RINK AUTHORITY
MINUTES FROM MEETING HELD January 21, 2010
Authority Attendance: Mike Goldblatt, Doug Barlow, Rich Wolak, Mike
Schermerhorn and Cheryl Ritacco
Absent: Judy Deglin
Guest: Jim Sanca, Mia Sanca, Yulia Borissova, Mike Arnone
Meeting was called to order by Michael Goldblatt at 6:20 pm, a quorum was present.
Minutes from the October 2009 meeting were reviewed and unanimously approved.

There was no correspondence
Reports
Jim Sanca reported on the following:
• The US Club hosted a Holiday Exhibition on January 3rd
• On March 19th and 20th The Rink will present the second annual “Dorothy’s
Journey through Oz”
• The Norwich Skating School will present their annual exhibition on June 22nd
• November and December special events included: Turkey Skate, Skate with
Santa, Holiday Skate week during the school vacation week and the 31st New
Years Eve Party
• The 1st New Years Day skate on January 1st had over 300 skaters for the event
• In February The Rink is partnering with Q105 to host the “Race for ICE” – One
lucky skater will walk away with a one-karat diamond among 105 zirconias
• The Rink participated in the Norwich Winter Parade with figure and hockey
skaters
• On January 31st during National Skating Month, the Norwich Figure Skating
School and Skating Club with host a bring a buddy day during the LTS session
• Southeastern Connecticut Youth Hockey held their 2nd annual Connecticut
Hockey day on the 9th of January with 45 participants. Also planned is a National
Hockey Day on January 30th
• Learn to Skate continues their programs with more than 250 registered skaters
on Sunday evening at the Norwich Ice Rink and 116 skaters at Connecticut
College
• Community events included Tommy Toy Fund toy drive, Norwich Girl Scout
troop overnighter, Norwich Girl Scouts weekly meetings, Special Olympics
Monday practice and over $500 of items were collected for a young girl through
the Network Against Domestic Violence
• An AED has been donated by Elizabeth Pontbriant in honor of her son Larry
Pontbriant. The Rink will go through a training session
• Income down at Rink possible reasons due to
Camel Camp cancelling last minute
$6,000 fire on veterans day lost $3000
Blizzard on December 19 and 20 lost public sessions both days and no youth
hockey a loss of approx $13,000
Higher level figure skaters moved to Simsbury - biggest deficit figure skating
Several of the symmetrical club members have left to skate at Bolton
Sever decline in Norwich Figure Skating Club almost 50% - upcoming
numbers graduating out of Learn to Skate to skating school should go up in
March
Supplies expenses up over 6,000 over last year
• Jim Sanca will provide a list of initatives from turn around from January to Rink

Alternates to the digital sign banners are politicans signs, billboards
Jim Sanca will provide a list of initatives from to turn around from January – june –
camp with Bernie 15-20000, slash in 15000 in payroll, push on the marketing side.
