NORWICH ICE RINK AUTHORITY MINUTES FROM SPECIAL MEETING HELD October 8, 2013 Authority Attendance: Pete Desaulniers, Cheryl Ritacco, JoAnn Beguhl, Mark Bettencourt, Gary Makowicki Absent: Stephanie Davis, Mike Goldblatt Guest: Doug Roberts, Shannon FitzGerald Meeting was called to order by Pete Desaulniers at 7:00 pm, a quorum was present. Rink Reopening The Rink reopened for business today, October 8, 2013 and plan on holding a grand reopening celebration in the future. Doug stated that he is planning on having a Grand reopening 3-4 hour event in a month or so and will be working on the details. The authority requested a more flushed out plan by the October 17, 2013 meeting. The Authority also requested that even though the press and media have already stopped in the Rink and reported on the Rink reopening, a press release should be sent out stating The Rink is reopened, the public skate, pro shop and concession hours. In the press release it should also state that The Rink is planning a grand reopening and more information will be coming soon. Executive session There was no business that warranted executive session Personnel and compensation Doug Roberts has identified the need to have a good plan moving forward on maintaining the building and the ice. In speaking to other people in the Rink Industry he believes the best practice is the have two full time maintenance employees that are equal and work together as a team. Doug recommends hiring a second maintenance supervisor for The Rink right away. A staff budget was presented to show how adding the position would work in the budget. JoAnn made a motion to adopt the staff budget with the following changes:  Addition of a second maintenance supervisor  eliminating 2 positions; the vacant Figure Skating Director position and the NHL skills coach position   redistribution of part time staff  increasing Admin Operation Manager salary to $35,000 with retro-active pay in the amount of $1725.00 Mark Bettencourt seconded the motion to adopt the Staff Budget with the changes, the motion passed unanimously. Doug Roberts provided the Authority with a resume for the candidate for the 2nd maintenance supervisor to review. After discussion Mark Bettencourt made a motion to approve the position pending background check and procedures from human resources. The motion was seconded by JoAnn Beguhl, and passed unanimously. With a motion by Cheryl Ritacco and seconded by JoAnn Beguhl, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00pm Respectfully submitted, Shannon Fitzgerald
